Hi-Tech in Melbourne
I've been chatting by mail to Lambros at Hi-Tech. I'm looking to install the new version of the steel exhaust now that the re-jigged version is availabe and a little less obtrusive than the first version. The Ti version is not available yet but will be more expensive that the steel ($1550 + GST) so not on my list.
Barring my leasing company kicking up a fuss, I intend to purchase and get the kit delivered asap but am not too mechanically inclined and was wondering about a worthy shop that would do a good job in installing it for me locally. Anyone got an idea?
I know ZZZ-35 did his own, but I have neither the time or inclination to do so and was therefore looking for someone professional to give my money too to do it for me.
As an aside, we could probably cut down on delivery costs (or kit costs maybe) if there were more than myself in one delivery. Any interested?

Take heart - ANY local spannerman with a hoist will install
the system in 1/2 hour. It's a very simple swap of fitting (now)
components.
I've just spent the day at the factory with Lambros re-jigging
to make a better fit and some other alterations for
aesthetics.
I reckon that he will likely offer two versions - the better
of the two fully polished with the mods incorporated.
Tuesday I'm going back for stage 3 fit-up and ok.
The bloke is the most willing, helpful bloke that I have ever
had the pleasure of doing business with.

The main thing I was concerned about was the final alignment and minimisation of low hanging flanges etc. I really didn't want to trust the Midas and Ultratunes of this world, no offense to them but I'm picky as hell as far as things go like that.
I have a secure garage at work with a stupid raising/lowering gate/hump thing to get inside and if I don't creep (and I mean creep, think of a dragster staging) over the hump I scrape bottom.
I wanted the polished version, I thought that was standard. What are the 'mods' that you mentioned Frosty? Are they above and beyond the standard kit?

Jim, I though there was only one as well until the Chilly one called me and ask a few questions about my system, It then appeared his was different.
If you have a look at the "oiled air filter" thread you will see a rear shot of mine and his and you'll notice they are different! Not sure why, perhaps Icicle could enlighten us.

I did notice that but put it down to shadow or lighting. Did you pay more that $1550 +GST Harry?
How about the flanges underneath, have you noticed any increased speed bump exposure? I haven't seen a picture with a before and after that shows any difference in clearance from road to exhaust kit.
My leasing company have cleared the funds, I also have a second buyer on board so things are looking up.

Jim, mine, as per the group buy arranged, was $1760 fitted. I've not had any hassles whatsoever with bumps and from what I remember there's no major difference in the "hang" compared to standard.
Anyway, when your full biscuit you couldnt hear any bumps anyway!

Hi Tech definately the way to go.
After driving Car2's 350Z in Perth with the Hi Tech fitted, I ordered one last week and it arrived yesterday and is already installed.
The installation took less than 30 minutes and was simply a bolt-on installation by a local muffler shop. Couldn't be more straight forward.
The exhaust is worth the money, simply for the sound alone. The noticeable extra performance is a bonus. The reported 20kw sounds correct.
With the standard exhaust I found the Z slightly "harsh". The Hi Tech is smoother with a more "European sound".
I find it no more noisy than the standard exhaust with definately no drone at cruising speeds.
My car is now the way Nissan should have manufactured it.

Hi guys,
thoroughly enjoying the new exhaust apart from the 3 rattles I get whenever the system flexes (ie over medium bumps) Is this normal with you guys? I will call Lambrose and see what he says when I get a chance but wondering what your experiences are first.

H - what's the cloak and dagger stuff you refer to - seems plain to me - he's making changes for better fit, moving the flanges so's they are out-of-sight, and doing a proper polish instead of
the silverharry (that's a tricky one) el-cheapo finish.
I don't know though if it could be done at the usual price (but
the system on my wrex was all of foregoing @ similar pricing)
He's using my car (at great inconvenience) to get it all spot-on
By the way, the flanges that now seem so obtrusive are EXACTLY
where the standard flanges are located - it's just that yer carn't
see the originals for the gigantic muffler. See, some people
just want the rear muffler only so yhey have to align.
I'm a fussy homofiliac (H), so I've worked with Lambros to improve
it for all if he incorporates the extras into the production.
He really should, 'cause that flange looks ****! from behind.
My muffler was crooked because of sloppy tradesmen - I reckon there might be a few changes - PAYS TO STATE CONSTRUCTIVE
CRITICISMS.

Frostman and firebrandHarry at it again I see
!
I have one from the initial groupbuy, and i wouldn't change it for the world. It has a very nice finish, very nice tips, and uber power up top.
NO NOISES EVER FROM HI-TECH GEAR...only from Nisshit!

Dave,
Probably in early December, it will take about two weeks to organise the lease enhancement and I'm in the middle of exams at the moment. There is no reason why you can't do the purchase and just store the exhaust until you're ready. That is if you are sure you want to buy a Z, and why wouldn't you.
Lambrose has given me a name of an affiliated installer who has done many of their kits before, he's conveniently quite local to me in Carrum Downs. I will probably organise to get the kit delivered there.

That's more than fine with me .... I'm not even sure if my car will be run in by then (and I'd like to wait 'till it's run in before I replace the exhaust).

True, but as I said, no rush at the moment.

Aaah, I already have bought one :-) Just got delivered to the dealer today, so I'll be picking it up sometimes next week. Heck, I've already got myself a spare set of 18" rims (they just have not arrived yet :-)
ps. It it just you and me, or do we have other people interested in the purchase of he exhaust?

Unless we have some lurkers in the forum, I think it's just you and me. I'm waiting on a reply from Lambros about kit mods and polished versions ala Frosty's comments.
