Default Aussie Twin Turbo 350Z ready and running

Check this out guys (and girls). We've spent the past couple of months developing the black 350Z, pulling the engine, fitting custom rods, pistons (8.3:1), blueprinting, and surrounding the engine with a range of components that have subsequently been cast to make up a complete kit.

Components include 2 x 350hp Garrett ball bearing turbos, custom manifolding, large front mount intercooler, MoTeC M800 ECU, and a whole lot more.

The engine made 520 horsepower on the engine dyno, therefore offering a power to weight better than a Lamborghini Murciélago, but with the drivability of a standard car. It purrs along and literally pulls up hills in 6th gear from 1000rpm. In fact, it has 1 pound of boost at 920 rpm.

We're proud of it and encourage anyone who wants a range of images to contact me via my email:

Sweet!

So is this all custom work? And are there plans to market it as a kit?

Me likes the sound of 520 at the wheels!

It did 520 on the engine dyno, not at the wheels.

There's another thread in the engine section. Kit is expected to be around AUD$45,000

Thanks for the replies people. Yep, as you would have seen in the US section (don't know much about how these forums work), the 'kit' should be available if demand is great enough.

If you have looked at what I have said on this other forum, please understand that although the description supplied is somewhat simplistic, there is vastly more to this package than meets the eye.

The process of development involved many hundreds of hours, followed by a massive amount of time tuning both on our in-house engine dyno, chassis dyno, and of course final road tuning.

It idles perfectly and literally drives like a stock car until you nail the throttle when it delivers fierce performance which as stated in the other forum, is the equivalent of the Lamborghini.

That said, for $100,000 and some change, you end up with what would be arguably one of the fastest cars available, a package that in stock trim (suspension, steering and chassis) offers range topping handling and precision. Even the brakes are quite good. So, what are you waiting for?

By the way, the car is situated in Melbourne.

I understand the thoughts about cost, however consider this: Engine removed, thoroughly rebuilt to exacting standards, custom rods and pistons, a $6000 MoTeC ECU (with launch control, data logging etc), two ball bearing turbos, front mount, intake, clutch, exhaust, custom intake and exhaust manifold...and so it goes. In other words, it's a very serious package that would, for the most part, fit the mould of a factory kit.

As previously stated, it drives like a standard car, but with the throttle nailed blows the doors off virtually anything on the road.

Not that a 1/4 mile has been run as yet, however using the dreamwheel (Moroso calculator), the theoretical is a 10.8 @ 125. Remember, the car is a manual and is not set up for drags, so it would not achieve a 10.8, however the mph is achievable.

What about engineering for local traffic authority and EPA certification?

It's a very complete kit without a doubt but I don't see a large market for it. I spoke to AVO earlier in the year and they had no interest in doing even a basic kit because their research showed the kit would cost AUD$20,000 and there was no market for it at that price.

I'd strongly recommend offering a "stage 1" kit as well that excludes the engine internals and perhaps some other items with a lower state of tune. Something around AUD$15,000 and you'd probably see a lot of demand.

Having said that if I win lotto or lose my mind I'll be first in line for the kit as it stands.

Perhaps Nathan and Peter should look at one of these and run in Nations Cup instead of GTP

What's the feeling regarding gearbox and diff?

Nissan were once well known for their unbreakable boxes, but now its influenced by the frogs (Renault) and given the probs
already in the US, i'm more than a bit hesitant regarding longlevity
of those components.

Niz, whilst I understand all the time, effort and parts that have gone into getting your project where it is, I for one would never spend 45 large on it. I would be extremely surprised if anyone would?

It just doesnt add up IMO, $80K for a car and then $45 to make it go like the proverbial. $125k and its still a Nissan!!!!!

That's nearly as bad as spending $100k on a commodore!

As always

Agreed Harry. Unless you wanted some sort of sleeper Z, but how inconspicuous can a Z get anyway.

harry try 65k for the track model and 45 for the turbo.

Still doesn't change the conclusion imho.

I think that sums it up. Those that could afford it probably won't for just that reason. They'll look at something with a more prestigious image.

Me thinks that some of our septic brothers may be interested though, have you seen some of the dollars that a few have pumped into their cars, amazing!

Maybe that's who the market is aimed at anyway.

So....total cost would be approx $115,000 ($70,000 for track model + ORC, $45,000 for TT mod) but you'd end up with a demon of a machine. Don't think there's anything in the same ballpark new/stock - R-35 may not make it here, and if it does it would probably be more expensive than this.
Never know, Nissan might bring out a FI 350Z in susbsequent models???
