My fuel economy at 110-120km/h is worse than at a steady 80km/h.
I doudt you'd get 800km to a tank with even all highway driving.

My Zed can do 11km/L on freeway driving...

11km/L = 9L/100km .... that's what I managed for the trip from Melbourne to Winton. Though, at Winton I managed 29L/100km ... how's that for an extreme ;-)

ps. In city driving (ie. everyday driving for me) I average 13.5L/100km. With the S2000 I used to average just under 13L/100km.

KY350, if you drive slowely as in don't push the car all the time and you spend all of the time in 6th gear you can go beyond 800km on a single fuel tank. I've done the trip from Gold Coast to Sydney quiet few times on a single fuel tank, but that was pushing and I was testing how far I can stretch the single tank of fuel. By the way the distance is over 800km. Also I've ran out of fuel just after I've left F3 when I got to sydney since I was driving on the reserve for the last 75km I think. I think it was around 13.6km/L on that trip, that is around 7.35L/100km.

In the city I get between 11-13.5L/100km, depends on the traffic and how much time I spend on motorways.

I've also done the trip from sydney to melbourne, and I had to refuel 50km before sydney and melbourne. By the way my car is manual coupe. The fuel economy on highways is going to be worse for roadsters and automatic cars.

I didn't think it was possible to get 800km form a tank, but if tou've done it, then its true.
I usually drive at 120km/h + (6th gear) on the freeway and I suspect that you would have to obey the speed limits to get good fuel economy.
City driving I get about 8.5km/L = 11.8L/100km and this is mostly in stop start traffic.

I've done over 700km/h on a tank when on the highway so i guess 800 is possible. I'd take a jerry can of fuel if I was going to test it out though.

LOL I dont think anyone would actually go out on a drive specifically to test how far you can go. Would they?

i did the 800km to sydney, it was a test and yes I was coasting around 118km/h, also going down hills in nutral with out braking (i'm glad there where no cops around). When I reached sydney I got off F3 on to pasific highway. There is a shell station there, I stopped there for fuel and I filled it up to full, well this was the first time I saw 74.7L on the fuel pump. If any one of you attempts it, I recommend a jerry can like zuff has mentioned.

I finally got to have a bit of a run with a blue Zed in my S2K yesterday on the freeway.

He came flying up along side of me so we both floored it. I pulled about 3 car lengths on him before I deemed it as unsafe and slowed down!

He pulled up behind me this time riding my back bumper obviously wanting another go! So again I floored it and same result, I was constantly pulling away with the same distance again. I bounced off the (9200) Rev limiter but still maintained my lead

I veered off to take the exit (as I already drove past my intended one) and he went speeding past.

I so wanted him to whip my ***, as I really want to buy a Zed. Maybe it was the driver. I just wanted to cry!

Doesn't mean a thing - 'spose he was in OD (6th) and your gearing was shorter than his? Was he on std unleaded?
Was he stock with the horrible stock muffler? etc etc.

Let me tell you - NO 2000 has got anywhere near me - and I'm not shithot - ask Harry!

BILLIOUS er, FROZTY

Chuckie, surely you cant draw any conclusion at all on the performance of either car by that experience. Why dont you just get into a Zed and see if it fits.

By the sound of it though, and with all due respect, your posts give the impression that you wont be happy with the Zed.

And, dont be so hard on yourself Shizzle. You'll get over it one day.

As always

Do you guys drive at 80kms in 6th?? Dont forget this guy approached me for a run first, so you would think he would be in the right gear.
How would I know what petrol he was using and yes the car looked stock! So what..?? I am not bagging the Zed (I luv it!!). Just letting you know what happened.

Let me ask you Frosty are the S2K's (that cant get "near" you) stock and is your car modded? Maybe you should arrange a run with an S2K in N'castle? I can help organise that on the S2Kforum you. It seems that not even all the magazine car testers around the world can get much of a differentiation performance wise between the two so Frosty you must be "shithot"

Thats not true Harry. I think it is one one of the best looking cars out there but I am just discussing performance measurements and comaparing them to my S2K.

I am not bius towards any car or manufacturer. I luv the RX8 as well, but unfortanately performance wise it doesn't compare and I am not gonna spend another $60k on a car that is slower.

maybe the Zeds in Newcastle are faster?

I finally got to have a bit of a run with a blue Zed in my S2K yesterday on the freeway.

Chuckie, you know that 'street encounters' are decided by a the driver and not the car. You will not learn anything remotely 'conclusive' from a random street encounter. Heck, in a random street encouunters I have witnesses stock MX5s dragging off WRXs ... does that mean that the MX5 is quicker (or even close) to the WRX in terms of acceleration ... I think not.

If you want to see how they really compare then meet up with a 350Z that is willing to do some 'tests' with you and then do several clinical runs and see what happens. That is what I have done in the S2000 as well as 350Z and that is what I base what I'm saying in the previous posts. If you're not happy with taking my word for it, then test it yourself (which is what I would do). I'm sure you'll find a willing person in Sydney.

ps. Here's another bit of info for you. I had both the S2000 and 350Z (with hHi-tech exhaust) at Winton. In the 350Z I can reach 172kph or so on the straight, while in the S2000 I could do low 160s at best. I had the S2000 there about 5 times, but the Zed ionly once. That shows you the difference in acceleration as the straight is enetered through a 80 - 90kph corner.

pps. I drive the Zed in 6th even at 50kph sometimes. Same with the S2000 ... I often had it in 6th at 60kph. If all I want to do is keep up with the traffic, tghen I'm in 6th.

I do Of course if I wanted to drag someone I'd drop into a more appropriate gear. Just remember this isn't an engine you have to rev for power. You've got a reline of what, 9000 in the S2000? We have a redline of 6600 and a heap of torque so driving around under normal conditions you can use 6th a lot more often than you probably do in the Honda.

Anyway if you're seriously interested I may have a Zed for sale. Excellent condition, barely run in at 11,500km and in the best available colour.

Just doesn't feel like the right car for me. I want something more pure sports and less GT is the simplest way to put it. I could drop a bucket of cash for turbo and suspension but I'm not sure it's worth it, especially if I'm still not happy at the end. As I've said in other threads I think it's a fantastic car (especially since mine has been bug free), just personal requirements/opinion. Not that I've decided 100% yet.

Ah fair enough.

Does your car still have still stock rims on it? Maybe get new sporty/beefy rims and it might revive your Z passion and make it feel more of a sport car? ... or maybe not, lol

I know when I see most Zeds on the road as stock they just look like a beautiful touring car. When I see them with aftermarket rims is when they start to look real sporty, then if it's kitted, even more so (if done tastefully of course).

Maybe it's just me? I know looks doesn't have to do with the performance you feel when sitting in the seat but it helps the feeling that you're driving a sport car more then a GT car.

Anyway, have you any ideas of what you plan to get afterwards if you do plan to sell the Zed?

I agree, wheels make the biggest visual difference to a car but I doubt that'd satisfy me.

Literally no idea what I would replace it with but I won't rush into anything.
