I've seen a couple of US based Z's with a great looking mesh grill covering the factory plastic version. You can see an example on the Z of the month pictures just below Richies pictures.

Has anyone investigated the who, where and how much of these items? I'd be interested in obtaining one.

Jim, Ive never looked into them, but, I know StrictlyZ.com have one. You could also try courtesyparts.com or even ebay.

I want one as well, but I was thinking about something black (in not as conspicuous) and behind the current grill. Thed main purpose of it would be to stop bugs/stones from splattering over my radiator.

Though, I have not seen anything like it yet so would like to know if anyone knows of anything.
