Unhappy Bugger, need new bumper

Well, I just had a skirmish with a curb on a very slippery/muddy road, as a result the bumper is cracked and the inner wheel well guard ended up 10m away from where I've stopped. Don't ask what has happened since the only thing I remember is that I've been in the air for like a whole hour or maybe the time has stopped, I'm still not sure.

Well, the left side of my bumper was all scratched up after getting done with a shopping trolley so I guess I had to finish it off all the way and get it fully cracked , besides I wasn't a fan of all the paint chips on the front either.

Any idea how much the stock bumpers cost? I know that Peter has one hanging in his workshop on the wall, but I'm not sure if he's willing to part with it. I'm also thinking about getting aftermarket bumper. I like the INGS+1 N-Spec bumper, but I'm not sure how practical it would be around Sydney (how low the front is).

Any idea how much it would cost to get the bumper painted? Also any one knows of any paints which can resist chipping?

Classic symptom of being abducted by aliens

At least you're OK and as you've pointed out you've been presented with the opportunity to look at bodykits. Oh and you'll have a decent paint job that won't chip when you sneeze near it.

well, i'm glad that they have not used any probes on me, that would have ended up even more messy then what it is now.

I'll also have to take my car to Peters workshop so I can get the suspension checked. I also want to check the underside and wheel alignment since the car dropped around 4m. It didn't sound too good either on the landing.

one that keeps me on the ground instead of the sky preferbly. I think racy-sporty is what I'm after, not luxury and not veilside, I don't want my car to look like a beached whale.

C'mon you got us all curious! What really happened?

Was this one of those "I dare you" home vids you were making?

If enough people ask I might tell exactly what has happened. But it wasn't one of the home vids.

I'm sorry to dissapoint, but i was coming back from lunch and this is what has happened:

slippery/muddy road, a hill, after the blind hill a sharp slow turn, I slamed the brakes, the car didn't slow down (slippery road and I think that the stock tyres are crap in the wet), hit a curb head on, I was flying (left the inner wheel guard behind at that moment), done I've tried to brake on the wet grass and it wasn't too effective, then a cliff... 4m in the air and what I think half an hour later, the car stopped.

The cliff wasn't really a cliff but a very steep hill, so the car landed with the front wheels frist and then rear end split second later, but it was hard landing never the less. I'm lucky that I got away with broken bumper and there where no trees.

My workmate was frozen in the seats and was waiting for all of the air bags to deploy. to his disapointment, none did.

Wow, that could've really ended in tears.

Have to ask why was the road wet and muddy? It doesn't rain here any more so someone must be responsible and possibly paying for the repairs etc.

I've no idea why it was that way, some one doing gardening? but with water restrictions? The grass on the hill was just grass, slippery and the brakes didn't work at all. Also my braking distance might have been made worse by feathering in my front tyres, the last one is just a speculation.

****, hope it doesnt cost you too much to fix. Spray painting a new bumper will be a few hundred dollars I think.

Driving into a gutter is bound to do some damage to your aluminum suspension though.

Where abouts were you? (very ruff answer is acceptable)

right now, nth ryde at work, but I live very close to CBD. Once I get home I'm going to get the car on jacks and check the suspension as best as I can.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad news but from that description I'm pretty sure you have more than just a bumper to replace.

I'd be surprised if you haven't bent everything in the front suspension. Did you hit with the tyre first? They can be buckled from such a big impact.

Hope it all turns out minor!

zuff, I'm very aware that it's all possible. I just hope it isn't, (for my pocket books sakes) since the curb wasn't one of those vertical ones, but one of those angled ones like in driveways. So I hope there wasn't too much damage done.

zuff, besides, the bearer of the bad news is going to be Peter, since I'm going to take my car to him some time next week to get it checked out.

Well, my workmate just came up to me and he told me (and made me realise) that the brakes didn't work at all, I've slamed them all the way to the floor and now when I think about it, the ABS didn't even kick in. Normally it's possible to feel it and hear it, but this time around for some reason it didn't work, WTF???? The car was as if it was on ice skates.

I'm not sure if it was the adrenalin which made me forget it or not feel it, but I'm positive that the ABS wasn't working.

I've also meant to post it a while ago, when I was on Gold Coast on easter I've met an older lady and she told me that she had a 350z coupe and the ABS unit has failed in her car, consequently she had a crash. She knows of another older man from Gold Coast and his ABS unit also has failed. At that time I taught it was all ******** and I've ignored her story. But there might be some truth to it after all.
