I wrote to Nissan about Gradn-Am support & got answer
There is so much politics that go on in racing that alot of people dont get to see. The average person just sees the race cars and the race results. There many things that happen for the good and bad that can make a car competitive and there are ways to get things done...correctly!
I have to be VERY careful what I say here.
There are proper ways in this series to get things approved to aid in making a car competitive. Everything in this series is baised on published HP and weight numbers , lap times and results. The teams and manufuactures need to work TOGETHER to do whats best for EVERYONE.
If a team would happen to go beyond the rules and legal limits of a car for the series to make it more competitive... in can have huge effects. If and when this happens and then...the level of competition has been raised (and this year it most certinaly has with the M3's and the FRPP Msutang) these issues really will pop up there heads.
The 350Z now needs a boost in the rules to allow it to be more competitive. Its up to the teams and the manufacture to work together and decide whats best for everyone.
Right now is a very critical time for the 350Z. Anything that is done now improperly can severly hamper it for the rest of the season or even into the next year.
On another note........Nissan Motorsports has been very helpful on many differnt levels.
I tried to attach a picture but its too big but its a really kick *** shot.

Last year we got the S1 camshafts approved and the VTC pulleys.
They helped but....the car still needed more.....now we need even more.
We are working with Nissan to help put together a nice package.

After skimming through a few 2004 GA tech documents, it appeared that the Z's were allowed a lot of upgrades compared to the competition (headers, cams, lt weight clutch/flywheel, control arms, and aero parts). This is not surprising, since the Z is priced much less than the M3's, NSX's, and 996's, therefore it would come from factory with less bells and whistles.
So, from what I see from this year's rule book, the M3 gets better gear ratio, lower minimum weight, and more fuel capacity. The new Mustang GT sure gets a lot of goodies too, but must run 250lbs more weight than the Z. Gosh, there's so many parameters...It almost seems like it comes down to a committee deciding who's probably going to win the season, and the teams are just pawns.

The Mustang that was approved....is a FRPP mustang that can be bought from an official FRPP authorized dealership. Its a complete car built for Gradn Am Cup racing.
Ford spent about 1 million dollars on its R&D and building the first 2 cars.
Its a $120,000 complete (add transponder bracket and radio harness) and you are all set. Ford also is offering trackside support...both parts service, engine mang serivce, and other trackside support with the car. They have a lot of money behind their program.
The engine is called a Cammer 50R with custom insternals and specially designed intake manifold for serious TQ and power gains.
The ball is rolling right now for the 350Z to get it some more power and make it more competitive for 2005.
You may soon see a complete new intake manifold for the 350Z that would offer very nice power gains....this is not just a new upper plate.
