Had fun with an '05 G35 coupe...
I just got back from a HPDE at Mosport DDC (http://www.mosport.com/karthome.htm). It was a fantastic day and that track is incredible (first time there.)
The highlight of the day though was getting chased by an 05 G35 coupe (6spd). We were both in the novice group but we were just flying. I was really impressed with how well the G35 kept up. The only time I was able to put some distance on him was in the tighter corners where I was able to get on the power much sooner. In the longer straights we were fairly evenly matched - he couldn't recover the distance and I couldn't pull away. What was really interesting though is that he made up a ton of distance when we were heading into a tight 2nd gear corner. I would have to slow down much more than him or else I would start to understeer on turn-in. But as soon as I crossed the apex, I could get on the gas a bit earlier and put some distance between us. Granted, not a lot of distance, but it would add up corner to corner.
I spoke with the driver later on and he had just as much fun chasing me as I had trying to get away. One thing he did mention though was that his brakes started to get a bit mushy near the end of the 3rd session. I was really impressed with my brakes and I never really noticed any fade. Before this event, I did switch to SS brakelines and RBF600 (but stock pads). Now, this track, at least in the configuration we used, wasn't expectionally fast, top speed was about 140-150km/h.
So overall, the point of this thread is that I have a lot of new found respect for the capabilities of the new G35. It is a very nice car. It makes me curious as to what the 300hp 350Z would be like.
