23 offset? are you sure those won't rub?

what are the weights on those wheels? i still have not picked up a set of 17's for next season and i'm leaning towards the koseis.

Default MB Motor sport 17x9 +35 Offset

The MB Motorsport Weapon is a very cost easy unit at $112 each. I have run these with 275x40 Khumo V710 for two years. They have held up well and the offset is just right.

+23 seem off for 275 size tires.

Those wheels are definitely on my radar, but I thought a +30 all around would be required for best results. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi Tim,

Yes, a 30mm offset would be better, but the FN01R-C's are only available in 17x9" in 35 or 15mm offsets. I have no rubbing issues with my 275/40 tires (but it is admittedly very close to the upright in the front suspension). I would have probably gotten them in the 15mm offset, but I got a great deal on eBay on the 35's.

MB Weapons and MB Competitions have a 27mm offset, which is just about perfect. Those are also priced very well, but they are a few pounds heavier than the FN01R-C's. Pay your money and take your choice...

I had my reseller contact Motegi and they approved of the application. If I have problems I'll get on them.

I think they're around 20lbs. I'll have to give them a weigh in, they just arrived.

Thanks,

That's good to know. There doesn't seem to much choice in +30, and I thought 5mm either way would be critical on the front with those big tires stuffed in there. The MB's are in the mix too, but I'd like to go lighter and/or stronger than a gravity cast wheel if possible. I thought the +35's would have more of a rubbing issue though (this link has been posted here before) - these guys even had some issues with +30's on 18";

I'm looking at just +30's now, but knowing that the whole +27-35 range is O.K. would open up the choices quite a bit - 5Zigen, Enkie, Kosei, to name a few all have the +35 at reasonable prices.

Enkei makes their RPF1 in 17x9 and its super light (less than 16 pounds), and not outrageously expensive. They have a 35mm size but also make a special order 22mm offset. The 35mm needs a spacer to fit over big calipers though.

From that site
From inside the wheel well, you can see how tight the clearance is between the Z's upright and a 275-section-width tire on a 30mm offset wheel. This is what you call barely fitting.

That is dang close!

Note that the wheel in the SCC article was an 18x9.5" wheel, not 9".

If you read a little further here's what they ended up with;

"After much searching, BBS found an 18x9-inch 42mm offset wheel and a 12mm spacer that, together, would add up to the wheel we needed."

...And there's another picture of the lower A arm with scuff marks on it. That's why I was so interested in White Knight's +35's fitting O.K.

I've checked with several wheel/tire outfits and nobody would sign off on the combo I was looking for. White Knght's 17x9 +35 5Zigens with 275/40's don't rub - I value his real world experience and think I'm in for the same combo with RA-1's.

Thanks!

You're welcome! I really put them to the test too, going ten-tenths at the Redline Time Attack. Even got a picture of my car in the February 2006 Modified Magazine (page 148).
