Never driving to the track ever again...

Everyone, thanks for your input. Will, the Prodigy unit is likely what I will buy...
Jason, I left you a v/m this evening... call me back when you have the chance.
Not sure... but I can assure you that it won't be in early April again...

Digging up a semi-old topic.
Nice setup John!
I’m considering getting a tow vehicle to. The Titan is nice but a tad big. That vehicle will double as a daily driver, replacing my Impreza, so a minimum of “fun to drive” is a plus. I’m leaning towards a NISMO Frontier. 6200lb towing capacity should be enough for an open trailer with the Z and it drives more “car like”.

The Frontier is a little light for towing a Z. It can do it for a short distance, but for longer hauls you really don't want to be that close to your towing capacity. Good rule of thumb is 80% for short, and 60% for long distances.
With the Z, trailer, tools, and other sundries you will be very close to capacity, and that can be a recipe for disaster for safety and reliability.

Thanks for the advice Marty.
I’ll keep that in mind. I’m planning on getting an aluminum trailer to minimize the weight and get the class IV kit with load balancers and 7 pins harness.
I’d be just under the 80% bar. Maybe a bit of a hassle on long hauls, but I’d keep my sanity on regular days.

Kolia, since you helped me make a tire & rim choice, the least I can do as a thank you is to offer a better solution to your towing needs. Think 20 TON towing capacity! 310 hp! 950 ft-lbs torque!

Kolia:
In all honestly, I couldn't imagine towing with less than a Titan. If you ever have to go up a hill or have to stop while towing, you'll definitely need something bitter than a Frontier. Otherwise you're going to have a fried tranny, diff, brakes, and a damaged front end from rear-ending somebody.
While the truck is big for daily driving, it's still managable. Hell, I live in an urban area and frequently have to park in downtown DC where parallel parking is scarce - and I'm managing.

A quick description of the model I use.
Tekonsha Prodigy
Runs about $120-140. Top shelf kinda thing.

I don't know guys, 6,500 is plenty if you have the right trailer. Trailex aluminum trailers are only 895lbs and are the lightest on the market (check them out at www.hendersonmotorsports.com). They also come with 4-wheel drum brakes to help with stopping. But, if you take 3300lbs (car), plus 900lbs (trailer), plus 1,000 lbs (gear) you're still only at 5,200. I tow with an '03 4Runner and have not had an issue. In fact, you don't really know it's back there.
I think the takeaway here is with the right setup, it's possible.
Happy Towing!

Must compete with Jones's...
I just bought me a new Aprilia bike. No I can't tow the Z to the track with it, but I can leave the car in track form for weeks at a time while I commute on the Italian steed.
edit: I can tow the bike with the Z

Congrats man! The Titan sure seems popular these days... one of my friends picked one up this past week as well.
Edit: Dave, is this your first bike? Congrats on that purchase as well...
