You probably beat on a car in stop-and-go traffic than we do on a Solo course.

And Auto-X is a lot more difficult than road racing (I know, I've done both). If Solo were any easier, they'd call it "road racing."

It is easier to do a perfect lap on a road course, the course is always the same and you have an entire weekend to get it perfect. AutoX courses are always different day to day, you can never cut a pefect run, and have to re-learn it every event. Not to mention no warm up laps, just 4-6 runs (30-60 seconds) to get it right.

haha, is this guy for real?

you can take a good auto-xer and make them a good road racer. however, you can't take a good road racer and make them a good auto-xer.

if your time is so valuable, why waste it in this thread? it does not pertain to you. so please, remove yourself from it. thanks.

Ask all of the national drivers. All seem to have a codriver, not really just as a tire warmer, which is just the name given to them.

Added benefits of a codriver include being able to find out any problems with set up that pertain to that particular course, as well as having warmer tires = sticker (therefore the term, tire warmer). This allows the other driver to hopefully have a better run.

A few years ago you wanted your tires to be warm. Now, with 710s you want the tires to be cold!

There is a local guy here in Virginia Beach that is fast in anything. His name is Dave and although he drives a Accord his favorite cars are 350z's.

I know he has placed pretty good before and won some events. He always gets faster times in the BSP Z's than the actuall owners by almost 2 seconds!

Let me know if you want to get in touch with him, he would probably be intersted.

Yeah, the Solo community can be pretty trusting. Then again, jerks tend not to want to hang around us since you actually have to WORK in order to play.

Not that standing around waiting to put cones back into place is that difficult, but something about it does tend to weed out those who are only in it for themselves. Then again, pretty much all of racing is that way -- we'd rather beat you "on the track" (or course) instead of beat you because you didn't run.

I don't know why people are getting so excited about this request. As jun14scr said, many (if not the majority) top level drivers have codrivers, and it's not at all unusual for people to jump into other peoples' cars at national-level events. It's hard to seriously damage a car at an autocross, so there isn't a huge amount of trust required, and the arrangement benefits both parties.

Steve
- codrove someone else's car at 2001 Nationals
- codrove someone else's car at 2002 Nationals
- let someone codrive my car at 2003 Nationals
- codrove someone else's car at 2004 Nationals
- let two people codrive my car at 2004 Nationals
- let two people codrive my car 2005 Nationals

I went to SEDIV SoloII race when it was in Georgia. On day one - it rained and I finished in the middle of the field (I was the only one at the event on street tires), on the second day - it was dry and I came in dead last - SM2 (still on street tires)!

In some aspects AutoX is harder than road racing since every coarse is different and you have to memmorize it before you drive it since you can't look ahead.
Yet, I think that Road racing takes more b@lls since you are going a lot faster and you can drive off the coarse and slam into a wall.

I can't make it Topika, but if I where going I would want someone to co-drive with me. I keep asking the my friend that is a NASCAR driver in my town to come with me so he can give me pointers and then drive the car and suggest improvements. Also, someone you can walk and talk the coarse and prep the car.

Good Luck.

Did you just get back from the most recent SEdiv? I really wanted to go, but had to let my friends go without me due to exams. Maybe you saw them there, he's pretty hard to miss. Drives a BSP mercedes slk. Came in second place in front of a 315 STi and behind a zr1 vette! Also, my other friend drives a FSP mazda wagon.

anyway, hippie, you've gotta be out there somewhere. Are you trailering the car up to nationals??!
