fuel starvation at the track
This past friday I was at a beaver run track event in PA. Toward the end of the day I had a little less then 1/4 tank of gas. When I was revving past 5k comming out of the corners the engine felt like it was either pulling timming or not getting fuel
at full trottle past 5k rpms the tach would shake and the car quite pulling. This is the first time I've noticed this and I don't have many power mods(plenum, intake, full exhaust) I am not familer with how prone to slosh our tanks are. I also noticed a strong fuel smell. And just for a added bonus I was blowing through coolent.
I just wanted to check if someones had similar problems.
ps. it was 54degrees that day

I haven't had mine on a track, but up until a few weeks ago routinely ran it on empty for autocross events, without ever having any starvation issues. The most I've ever put in the tank on filling up was 19.3 gallons, so I ran her pretty low
This is a common problem for us tracksters. Fuel starvation after right hand turns. I don't like to start a 30 minute session with less than 1/3 tank full. Its a split tank and it all goes to the other side.
At VIR I've had fuel starvation at near half-tank... I went to the gas station afterwards and filled up with 11 gallons. Unfortunately the weight is taxing, but you need to run at nearly a full tank whenever you're pushing the limits on track.
Wow, I'm surprised you track go-ers have starvation issues.
Like Chris, I can comfortably Solo2 with very little fuel. I've even run with the empty light on (something which my past Solo2 cars couldn't do).
It must be a function of g-load duration and direction or something.

Yep, I really only get it on turns with a high sustained lateral g-load. Those notably being Hogpen (T17) at VIR, T12 at Road Atlanta, T2-3 at Barber, and T10 at Summit. Having a bucking car halfway down the straightaway thereafter is no fun...
I have to agree. The long duration of crazy G loads causes the issue. I suggest you fill up during lunch hour if you have run more than 40 minutes of track time.
(Redfoot, did you get my e-mail about WG? The rest of us are going + Staticling.)

I am now experiencing the same problem. Last year I could run it down to almost empty with no problem, but I was reving the engine to 7200rpm. Now with the heads done, I am reving it to 7800rpm and I am having this problem once the engine revs past 7200rpm, obviously the engine is sucking so much fuel at high rpm that it cant pass back over into the passenger side of the tank quickly enough.
The quick and easy way to fix this is to drop the fuel tank out and install fuel cell foam in the passenger side saddle tank to keep the fuel from sloshing to the drivers side of the tank. The more expensive option is to add a second fuel pump on the drivers side of the fuel tank.

were can I find info on this foam and proper placement? I need to figure something out weather it be that or the second fuel pump. I don't want to just deal with it and have a full tank all the time, plus I have my car corner balanced with half tank.
An easy mod. Drop the entire rear subframe, remove the OEM fuel tank, cut it in half to install the foam, re-weld the tank, and simply re-install the tank and rear suspension!
Ask your dealer if they'll do it along with their recall.

Just find what's your minimum fuel load before getting fuel starvation (say 1/4 tank), add half of the missing fuel (half of 3/4 is 3/8) and re-corner weight your car with that load (5/8 of a tank).
The way it should have been done the first time...

As long as I ran over 1/4 tank of gas at Roebling this weekend I was fine. I was hitting speeds of 70 mph entering turn 8, exiting at 75 mph, hitting turn 9 entering at 90 mph and exiting at 105 mph before the straight and ending the straight at 140 mph. Both turns are late apex right hand turns and didn't have any problems with fuel starvation.
John is right about the fuel pump.
