What a great race! Congrats to the Audi & GM factory efforts that took their classes (LMP1/GT1), but even more kudo's to the privateers who rocked the establishment with a podium over factory muscle in GT1 (Luc Alphond's "old" 'vette C5R) and a class win in GT2 (LNT in the "old" Panoz).

I know endurance racing isn't high on the list of sports events for the general public, but there's got to be a halo effect from winning or the factories wouldn't be there. That being said, there's still a couple of things I wonder about:

1. Why no Ford? They have a large market presence in Europe and legendary status at Lemans. A renewed GT-40 project would be a fantastic image booster.

2. Audi has the engineering prowess to dominate prototype racing and leave the target audience in awe. Why can't they produce a road vehicle that even begins to live up to that promise? Their S4 has something like a 60/40 weight distribution and can't keep it's front tires off the sidewalls when it gets on the track. The TT is an overweight posermobile. They're surely capable of better.

Any thoughts?

it was nice for speed to conver almost the entire envent. It was very well presented and enjoyable (obviously, I didn't watch the entire race )

The amazing thing about the audis is that they are full street emission technology engines. Particulate filters and all.

Next year peugeot should entire LMP1 with a V12 powered diesel car too.

I agree on the Ford thing. They could smoke it if they put the money there.
