Default My new goodies from TC Design

Just wanted to show off some of my new bits from TC Design: Anyone in Northern California should really go check out his shop. They just got a huge 3D CNC milling machine and always have some nice race cars to drool over. They're also able to get motons for a 350Z.

Here are my new adjustable sway bar end links and folding tow hook.
merry xmas to me

That folding tow hook is very nice! Moving in the direction of a Transformer robot, are we? All good stuff.
Merry Christmas!

Nice gifts Dave! You should see what I'm getting for xmas...hey wait, you do know! I'm getting a noisemaker and rear ballast/look-fast goody! hehehe..., but I'll look younger than you, that's for sure. I do like that tow hook, though!

Hey Eagle1, were you at Thill on 12/10? I saw a white car like yours, and it had VRT stickers on it. It was trailered out of the raceway before I could come say Hi.

Yep. Unfortunately my tires were very unhappy with the wet surface. I did a full 180 degree spin in the middle of the straight going up to #14....on the yellow flag first lap! Then another on the second lap. Going about 3/10's. No point in pushing it on the rubber I had and putting the car into a wall or upside down with all the wet mud just off track. So I pulled it in and trailered out of there. Hopefully better luck next time. As it turns out I think I bent one of the shock dampers in front on one spin as the valving is stuck totally. So just as well I did not try any more! Hope to get it back out there in a couple of weeks.

Cheers.

Their website is www.tcdesignfab.com
I was the test mule for the end links and they should be ready for the public now. Tony makes some high quality race products. Every time I go to their shop, they're working on high end cars. They also did my custom roll bar and upper shock mounts with SILENT spherical bearings.

drivenCSZ, Stock tow hooks stick out a few inches from the bodywork. The point of a folding one is that in the event of 'friendly' contact, you won't damage other vehicles. I like it because I can leave it on the car all the time and have one less thing to deal with at track days. I belive that they're SCCA and NASA approved.

Make that SCCA required. You now have to have a folding or soft tow hook in club racing.

Is this a rule in Solo? I couldn't find anything in the 2007 GCR for club racing about "folding or soft tow hooks". It does say "...does not dangerously protrude from the bodywork when the car is racing..."

I think the folding tow hook is a nice piece though. I have one from a BMW that broke off in my bumper from a "soft" hit

Not a Solo deal... Might have been a FasTrack item. Hard to have one not protrude from the bodywork if it does not fold or is not soft. I know to get his 2006 tech inspection/log book signed off Dave Schotz had to remove the ridged hooks on both of his T2 Fbodys, he went to the tow strap style. Some region tech guys are a pain, AZ is one of them.

Funny story...I was parked in tech next to Dave on the last qualifying @ the Runoffs and he had to put a box over his tow hook so people wouldn't trip over it...no joke. I thought my rear tow hook was bad, his front was deadly. Anyway, many of the T2 Z guys have been running the stock tow hook in the front, but I like the folding piece. With the folding piece, maybe us Z guys could bump draft our way to the front

Drive on!

I emailed TCDesignFab for a quote on their 350Z folding tow hook and they replied $100 and said I had to mail them my stock hook(?). Ouch! Especially when they advertise on thier website $75 for a Porsche front folding tow hook. Why do they need my stock tow hook and why so expensive? Did you have to send/give them yours? What immediately comes to my mind is that they are going to cut my stock hook "to size", drill a hole in it and connect the folding hook/clasp to it and charge me $100.

I do HPDE and a folding tow hook is not yet a requirement for the groups I run with. This would definately be a "nice-to-have", but for $100 it will have to wait...

That sounds about right. They really don't have interest in mass producing tow hooks for the Z. It takes them quite a bit of labor time to make one thus the high price tag. I'm just getting lazy and don't want to deal with any more setup than I have to when I arrive at the track.

Not sure what these cost from TC Design, but Nissan Competition has had these for the T2 suspension kit for several years. They can be purchased seperately from the kit and you can order them from any Nissan Dealer. Performance Nissan had them on their website.

How can I find out more about what is available from Nissan Competiton? Do they have a separate website (link you can provide)? Do they have competition heads and cams; things like that?

How do the TCDesign endlinks compare to the SPL units? Do they make the full setup front/rear?

Thanks! I'll check into that.

OP: Sorry about the "side bar" question -- thanks!
