I'll second the Northern Tool trailer. With some care assembling it, especially the wiring, it'll last for a long time. Throw away the clips you get with it and use some real zip tie mounts. I've seen several dragging their wires because the supplied clips are crap. Oh, and use some good heat shrink to cover any splices.

You guys should know that with tires, it's all about heat. I'd say that a tire rated for 500lb at 55mph with 50psi inflation is certainly good for 75mph with 50psi and only a 200lb load. If you're worried, pull over and check the temperature!

My HF trailer is on its 4th year of good service with 200-400 mile trips to lots fo DE's. What made it really work is the tire rack for DW Welding at www.dwwelding.com.

It hold your tire/wheels and your street wheels/tires whne you go to the track from the event hjotel. He will adjust your rack depending on your street/track sizes (S18/T17, S19/T18, ect.) It has spots for locking a security cable and a hold down strap.

He has made 4 for Z guy trailers and will ship it to you primed, ready to color match. David Whitney TEL 270-436-5638

Send me a PM with an e mail address and I will E mail you some pics of the rack as built and the trailer with wheels in it.

It is strong, light and a great value.

^ I'm not sure if that one is made for the 350Z. Here's what I have been looking at:

Has anyone installed this hitch on their Z?

I've fabricated and installed 2 of them, one on my Z and one on BA_Cutler's. Not too difficult, the hardest part IMO was drilling the bumper. Both of our hitches are completely different since at the time I installed mine I still had the stock exhaust. Mine's is similar to the one mentioned above, except I have it set up so that it is partially removable w/o a lot of effort.

Do you have pics of your hitch? Just curious how yours is setup. Did you have to cutout any portion of your bumper? I'm trying to avoid this as much as possible.

Nope. Aside from drilling holes in the bumper cross member, nothing was touched. I'll see if I can find some pics of it.

When you get a hitch installed, is it permanent or can you remove it when you don't need it?

Please do. I may go to something a bit "heavier duty" than what I've got, although I do like the "invisible" mounting of the hitch that I've got.

What kind of hitch do you have? I'm looking for a hitch that I can install without having to cut the bumper. Do you have pics?

+1 for pics. You mentioned about fabricating your hitch. Can you provide more details i.e. what parts did you used, where did you get them, etc?

BTW, did you sell those tires?

I'll see if I can hook up the trailer this weekend to take some pics, but here are a couple of pics of the installation and how the hitch looks after everything is done. At the time of that installation the car was completely stock. I'll be putting on new spring to lower the car about 3/4 an inch and see what, if anything, happes. I've towed my autoX trailer about 4000-5000 miles w/ this set up and no problems so far.

I've seen drivesolo's car lots of times...if you're not looking for a hitch, you wouldn't realize that he had one. It's a clean install!

Still working on the spring install. I had a couple of problems w/ a few messed up lugs that required some unique tooling to be made to remove. I should be able to get the springs on sometime this week and then I'll hook up the trailer to it and take some shots. Unfortunately, I have no shots of the trailer build-up or the hitch install other than those I already posted. I might have some CAD renders that I can post when I originally designed it. I'll see if I can find 'em.

Has anyone installed this hitch on their Z?
I had one for about a year, it worked very well, and the overall design destributes the weight well to the aluminum crash bumper. Yet, that pictures shows that he cut his bumper - I didn't have to. And the other thing, if you remove the rear bumper the hitch is really easy to install (the directions tell you not to remove the bumper).

Here is a picture of it installed:

That's good to know that you did not have to cut your bumper. For some reason, my work site is blocking the link to your picture. Can you upload the picture so I can see what the hitch looks like installed? Thanks!

Mooddude, got your PM. Thanks! BTW, the hitch looks good in the rear of the Z. It still looks stealthy.

Probably the hitch is so stealthy since all you see is a big *ss wing! I really hate the look of the wing - but man I can get on the power so much sooner than w/o it!

Kolia has my hitch now, since I am now 100% trailering the car now, so see what he has to say about the hitch.

I finally got a chance to hook up the 'ol trailer to the Z this weekend. Here are some images of the assembly.

This is the business end of the trailer hitch:

This is the receiver I use which is a class II receiver w/ a 1.5" drop, turner upsdide down:

Trailer gets hooked up:

I replaced my Habor Freight trailer last week with a 4'x6' mesh floored trailer from Tractor Supply. It's heavier at 260# but sits lower and allows me to see over my 285/18 tires out the back window. Tounge weight is about 52# with 4 tires and a tool box with jack, jack stands, tools.... It is made much sturdier and has room for rains when I can afford them. The tow of 600 mile round trip to Walnut Ridge was uneventful.
