Default new tires

I am currently looking for a new set of tires for street use as well as regular autocrossing. I want something with good grip as well as good tread life, I don't have the money for another set of rims so I need to get some that will last daily use. I will be using the stock tire size as well. So if anyone can make some suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Kuhmo MXs are pretty good. Tread life is about average for a competitve street touring tire. Buy the new Grassroots Motorsports magazine they have a feature on this very subject. The Falken RT-615 won but the tread life is pretty low.

Yeah, I like my Kumho MX's as well..albeit not in the stock size. They grip very well, and withstand heat at the track decently as well. They are cheap too! Unfortunately I don't think you'll find them in the stock 18" sizes.

yeah I checked yesterday and no luck, but I have a friend that can get me some RT-615's for around $650 so I think I am going to go that route instead.

Why go with the stock size? You can get 265 or 245. Albeit little more expensive than the Falkens they will be better to live on. If you go with the Falkens just prey it doesn't rain hard. The 615's don't like rain. For autocrossing I would suggest going with the same size at all four corners. It doesn't give the "mad staggered yo" look but it works.

one of the rt 615's are very very popular but i've heard have kinda crappy treadwear. if money isn't too big of an object, the advan neova's are very good tyres, but again... it's still a competition sports tyre so it will wear quickly.

something more durable and somewhat recommendable are the nitto nt555, or some performance hankooks. Just my 2 cents.

The Bridgestone RE-01R is getting a lot of interest from some of the top level autocrossers. Jason Rhoades was running a set on an EVO 8 this weekend and was very impressed with their performance. A few others were thinking about switching from the Yoko Neova and the Falken because Bridgestone is offering some generous support to people competing in the ST category.

The STS guys are all over these. The biggest problem I have seen is the price. The cost of these are right inline with a dedicated R tire.

Add another vote for the MX's. The only downside is that the sidewalls are a little soft. Grip and price are great though. (for street tires) I realy love the way they break away when you get near, or go over, the limit. (smoooooothly)

The Azenis are good if you don't care about ride comfort and the tire roar.

+1 for the Azenis. Grippier than the MX and not that terrible in the wet.

Expenct them to last just as long as the OEM re040.
