Do you happen do have a picture of the 4 wheels in your Z? I really want to get some r-compound tires and lightweight wheels, but before I do that, I need to figure out how to transport them to events.

I assume you put 2 on passenger seat, 1 behind seats and 1 in the spare wheel compartment.

Thanks!

it's kind a hard to get a good pic of this...here's how it works:

1st: 1 wheel in the spare tire area (this leaves lots of room for other tools...
2nd: passenger side, slide and recline passenger and driver seats fully forward...slide 1 wheel behind the seats and have it tilt down in the back so that it's wedged below the rear strut bar. push seats back and use the mto secure wheel. **you also want to secure this wheel to the sturt bar...if you get into a crash, you don't want this taking off your head .
3rd: 2 wheels side-by-side in the passenger seat standing up, and facing forward. You also want to secure these 2 b/c if you go around a corner, they'll fall on you!

I can fit 4 275/40/17's...but it's a tight fit, especially in the front seat.

I've done this for about 10 events...it works fine, but you get some dirt and wear/tear on the interior, and driving is a bit harder b/c your mirrors are slightly blocked.

here's the pic of the rear...in this photo, I had actually used an old ski rack to mount the other 2 wheels on the roof b/c my wife was coming with me. this was kinda scary and it ended up scratching the roof and wasn't too safe:

Thanks!! That gives me some hope.

Yes, tearing the front passenger leather seat and interior is not what I want. I will cover everything with blankets if I go this route.

How about driving to the event on the track wheels?

There's going to be almost no wear from highway driving. And the tires won't get hot enough for a heat cycle.

Check the weather, and drive on them. Don't run the risk of being turned into a pulp in case of an accident...

I always put them in the thick garbage bags - it protected the interior really well, but small rocks and dirt would still be left inside the car..

I plan to run on my slicks to the very local events (within 10miles). But what if you cord a tire or two; you dont want to drive back on steel.

The Hankooks that I ran last year ran out of grip before rubber...I'm probably around 35% thread left and grip is on par w/ my used RA-1's.

*this year I'm running Hoosiers...so cording the tires seem to be a much bigger chance. (but I'm still using the trailer, so it's not a problem.)

**I really like how the Hankooks left so much rubber...it's still got lots of grip (not for competitive autoX), so I can use them for autoX practices, track days, drag racing, or dry street days.

Default pictures of the welding...

Nice write up. Do you have any pictures of the reinforcing welds that you did on the frame? Thanks.

I looked through my pics and I don't ...it's not really welding the frame of the car, but welding the seems of the brackets which attach the Aluminum bumper to the car.
