That's a loaded question...

IMO... if you don't have a roll bar, it's not safe to run harnesses with a stock seat or otherwise.

If you do have a roll bar, and you have a way to mount the harnesses properly, then it can be done with stock seats, but it still will be a compromise. The main compromise being that you have to run the anti-submarine straps from behind the seat, between the seat bottom and seat back, and sit on them parachute-style. You also have to make sure the shoulder straps won't slide off to the sides, so you either run them through the headrest supports (kinda uncomfortable), or you make sure they can't slide left or right where they wrap around the harness bar.

I always ask... why do you feel you NEED harnesses?

i know Gforce, and probably others, make a strap that you run the shoulder belts through and keeps the harness's together. not terribly uncomfortable, just a pain to deal with I guess. Its called the "H"strap.

If you can find someone still selling them that way ... I wasn't able to when I bought my harnesses early this year. If you can find that, it's the simplest way since you should be able to have that strap directly behind the head rest.

It's not the stock seats that are the problem. It's the fact that you're wanting to use a Harness Bar that's the issue...at least it is from where I'm sitting. A properly worn 5 point harness won't let you move in the seat. That's good for taking corners, etc. However, if you have the harness....but no roll over protection, it's dangerous. In the event of a roll over, you won't have anything keeping from the roof from caving in...and you won't have any way to move yourself out of the way (ie...you can't lean over to escape the incoming roof).

You shouldn't run a harness without at least a 4 point roll bar. In the end it's your call....but it's not something I would do.

Here are my crappy, just before dark pics that were requested.

These are to show the height of the bar and also passenger seat room.

My seats are on sliders and they are not "to the floor". I'm only 5'7" and the top of my head is even with the top of the seat.

Once again, these pics are crappy.

I have to say that the Autopower has done their homework on this one. I had an AP bar in the 240Z and the fit was OK, bot not great.

So, now I have to make a decision. Autopower or custom? At least I have a while. Have to pick seats as well. That is even a tougher decision.

Morris,
As far as the seats go my advice is seat in as many as you can. every seat fits everyone differently.

Marty, that is the plan. I tried a few at CMP a couple weeks ago. Should have sone more of that. I will be at Stacy's track day on 12/1 and plan to try as many as I can there.

I talked to Chris at Competition Cages the other day. Thanks for that lead.
