1 track day and i know i need brakes
(all backround, SKip to answer brake question)
Just got back from the track, 265/285 pole positions, Stance coilovers, Hotchkis sways, kinetix a arms, stillen rear, -2.3 camber. The car rocked, I am a natrual driver from karting as a kid, but at age 19, i was running down z06's ( r compounds as well), 911 turbos, There were alot of very fast cars but i was up there i was on pocono north with a stock motor z on street tires (age 19) and i did consistant 1:03.xxx I know i could be faster i know i can break a minute.
Either way, i had to get that out i am incredibly Happy, and feeling good.
??????
I destroyed my brakes, crumbled R4-s pads in 20 min sessions, I was leaking brake fluid out of my piston on a car with 15k on it
I NEED BRAKES
Should i do stoptech 4 piston 4 piston, or should i opt to go with the 6 pot fronts the st-60's. Any feelings on these brakes. If i am going to brake a min on street tires i need to be able to brake later, Thats how i would gain on the 500 hp cars.

I assume your Z did not come with Brembos.
Anyhow, on street tires the non-Brembo calipers should be fine. Just upgrade to some good brake fluid (Motul RBF 600, ATE Blue etc), get track pads (R4S are not true track pads) and just make sure you aren't riding the brakes at the track.
Having upgraded pads and fluid, should be ample for max braking on street tires.
Edit:- Unless of course if you have a big wallet, then by all means go BBK =)

no big wallet its a stretch to get them, Im going to get a great deal, near cost, and i will not be on street tires soon, when these are gone im making the jump, i just figure if i am going to spend 1200 on brakes i might as well spend 3 and get the last ill ever need.
Good job, 1:03 is a very good time on street tires.
Stock brakes won't hold if you abuse them. I have to baby it just to get it through my day. I average a set of pads every 200 track miles (I can get 40K on my street pads with many autox). If you can mod the car, go change the brakes. I can't, so I am paying for it...

thats they were very consistant 104's But i had a 103 and i kept sliding one turn, as the car sits it has a 102 for sure the next 30 min of practice, my line was bad in a few places and i know it, Tmak your a fast driver, just so everyone knows, he runs around 60 seconds on a stock z. A legend in cart, very agressive, i hope your at the next one. I would love if you instructed me a bit.

I did a high 1:02 on my car with street tires, 1:00 on RA1s. 1:02 is very doable, but it will be hard to keep up at that pace lap after lap. Once equipment heats up, nothing more you can do. On street tires, I can lap at 1:03 all day, but it takes a lot to get down to 1:02.
When I first read the post, I thought you did a 1:03 at LRP.

Porterfield R4S pads are not track pads. Reading through the track pads thread at the top of this forum will help a lot with proper pad selection. Also, ducting air to the front rotors is almost mandatory regardless of pad selection.
Personally, I would make a pad change and duct air before I would spend money on a BBK. Depending on the racing class you compete in (or might race with in the future), a BBK might not be allowed.

Call Carbotech brake pads and talk to Danny and see what is suggestions are for stock calipers. We use their pads all the time and they not only make great pads but give excellent service. We were short a set of pads at Pocono and they overnighted a set to the motel.
But John Coffe is right to see what you can do with the setup you have before moving on to a much mors expensive solution.

Glad you had a good time and you were putting some of my advise to good use, (keep listening and you will go even faster real soon) hahahaha. Thanks for the update e-mail and the call. Talk to you soon...............
Pads, brake lines, and fluid. I was the guy named Matt. Tom I met you at Lime rock. The difference between my stock pads and ebc yellows was amazing. Grip corners you have an 06' with the twin piston front brakes. With the right pads and maybe some cryo treated rotors(still much cheaper than a bbk). I saw your front rotors the pads were burnt with hot spots all over the place. I got that with stock pads but not now.
Maybe ill look into that as an option, with a duct kit of some kind, I wish i ran faster in the time trials portion. I need to get a lap timer, driving with nicks was awsome
