Default Suggestions for Track Wheels (Pannonia Ring)

hi!

i'm searching for light wheels for the track. i want to improve my time at the pannonia ring and i think i could do this best with a new set of wheels

the track is this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ai__YQMphYM

http://www.pannonia-ring.com/index.p...language=en_US

and my best lap is 2:27.4 with a stock my2007 (with rays) ...

so my opinion is to buy some nismo lmgt4 (F: 8.5j18 and R: 9.5j18) with 245/40 and 275/40 michelin pilot sport ...

is this a good setup or should i go further with anything else (kw cup, sways, or stay with the rays and get other dimensions of tire *hmmm*) ...

thank's for your feedback and excuse my bad english

greetz thomas from austria

thanks for your answer, but i think that the semislick tires have to much grip for the original suspension ... or am i wrong?!

but the enkei wheel looks great ... do you know the weight of the wheels and how much they cost?!

*wooow* the gold ones look ... btw my car is midnight blue ... here a pic from track (first round behind instructor without helmet) ...

and the 8.5j18 weighs only 18.3lbs and the 9,5j18 only 18.6lbs ... that's great too ... thank's tac-m for the idea ...

hmmm ... now the only problem is the tire size ... ooooor should i better go with another suspension and the rays

EDIT: do the enkei clear the brembo brakes?!

Proxes R888 tires don't come in 295/18.

I would go with a set of ADVAN Racing wheels. They all have massive brake clearance. They are made by Enkei with MAT process which means they have a forged barrel and are very light as well.

My 18X9 front ADVAN RS wheels weigh 17.9 lbs, and my rear 18X10" wheels weigh 18.3 lbs. I wouldn't go with smaller than 9" Front and 10" rear. I run a 275/305 R888 tire and they are amazing. Great offsets for wide tires too.

A good set of tires and a good dampers with agressive spring rates will be the biggest improvment you can make at this point.

I run a 10" +35 Rear with -2.0 camber (no rubbing) and a 9" +22 Front with -3.0 camber, but there is a small amount of rubbing on the outer fender. Not a big deal. Just a small amount.

thank you for your suggestion jet-pilot ... the advan wheels look very nice and the important, the weight is even not high

hmmm ... the only thing is, that at this point of time i can only afford one thing ... wheelcombo or suspension (i think about kw3 cup) ... so what will be the best idea ... should i go first with a wheelcombo or should i invest in a better suspension?!

btw ... if i go first with the advans ... i think semislick tires would be not so good because they have to much grip for the stock suspension ... hmmm and aren't the r888 very heavy ... i think the michelin pilot sport cup is the better way for a semislick?!

Personally, I think wider and stickier tires are more valuable than suspension upgrades. At least until the amount of grip you have keeps you on your bumpstops through corners. I don't know where the line is between needing to upgrade your suspension and not, which is also a function of the track and driver I would imagine.

A couple of thoughts:

Do you have any video of your laps? If so, maybe a few of us can offer suggestions on where you could pic up a few tenths (or learn a few things from you, who knows).

Second, how's your alignment?

I just have the mentallity that I want to get 99% of what I already have vs upgrading before I need to.

sorry, i have no onboard vids (i'll do them next time) ... but i can say that my line is nearly perfect (says my instructor) ... the problem or better the point, what i have to improve is the coasting phase between acceleration and braking ... that's where i loss my tenths ...

but that's a question of training and not of my setup ... so my consideration is, that if i get a better wheel setup, i can accelerate much earlier and get a higher speed in turns ... that + better coasting phases must be perfect ... anyway for the first step

PS: i hope everybody understands my broken english ;-)

Just for comparison the Pilot Sport Cup Tires in 285/30/18 are 25lbs, and the Proxes R888 is 28lbs.

You speak better English than many American's. Sad truth.

Get better brakes or pads and stop coasting! Haha, there's a few tenths right there!

OT question - are you NOT wearing a helmet in the car with the instructor?

If you are dead set on changing the car, I'd say you should invest in sway bars and springs, and apply the balance to better tires and keep the stock Rays. Also, please keep your hands on the wheel and the windows down.

@jetpilot: in unsprung masses it is a world ... and in europe nobody would except an overweight of 1,36kg per tire!!!

@beau: thanks ... i rather preserve ;-) ... and braking pads ... i drive ebc yellow stuff, goodrige hoses and have an brake ventilation ... that makes the brembos really competitive ... here the link for the brake ventilation:

http://www.my350z.info/viewtopic.php...senbel%FCftung

@scotts300: as i wrote above ... this was the first round with all cars on the track ... we drove slow to become acquainted with the track ... so nobody wear a helmet and the pics was taken with 50km/h ...

hmmm ... swaybars and springs ... sway bars are okay, but springs in combination with stock dampers is the badest way to improve a trackcar ... sorry, but this is only for the show and shine fraction ...
