2009 auto X season.....
I've been searching and reading on here, google, and scca forums.
I am probably going to be traveling next year and unable to kart race, so i have been thinking of auto X'ing the car.
How long til the 09 rules are decided or maybe they already are???
I have a body kit, wheels and tires, soon to be camber arms front and rear, and then probably suspension.
Which seems to put me in an Rcomp class.
I did see someone mentioned a regional stu2 class which would allow those mods on street tires if i read right???
Moreless I thought i would start this thread to keep up with the new changes and get the input of some of those "in the know"
My setup will probably screw me but its look like it will be
My body kit
18 9.5's with street tires
camber arms front and rear
(currently just have lowering springs) But am also hoping to get sways and possible coilovers.
Thank you for any input, information, or new ahead of time.
Thanks

all the classes the 350Z fits into are R-comp classes, short of a regional STU2 class like you mentioned but if your region doesnt have one or won't start one you'll probably end up in a PAX street tire class like alot of regional clubs offer. What kind of bodykit do you have? if youve got like a carbon fiber hood or a different bumper it may throw you into SM2.
what kind of karts did/do you race? WKA?

depends on the kit I think, if its just cosmetic bits hanging off your front/rear bumper and some sideskirts I'm not entirely sure it would bump you out of BSP. I dont really think anyone would care in your region if you run BSP, as long as its not like a carbon fiber wide body kit or something ridiculous like that.

Technically yes, body kit = SM2. If you run at a divisional or at nationals, you WILL be protested.
Regionally, it really depends upon the region. I some regions, you'll have someone who will pull out the rule book and will protest anything that isn't legit. Other cases, you'll have people who don't really care one way or another, as long as the changes aren't blatant performance improvements.

My local place now wouldnt care. When i go out to LA.. in sure someone would.
I've run briggs, yamaha, and OPEN, 2 stroke 4 stroke dirt and asphalt... lol
Its an INGS front and Greddy skirts..
so moreless im gonna be F'ed.... lol. that is okay. I guess i can do it for fun.
Problem is no matter what i say is for "fun" i get competitive.
what class is it that the 350z isnt in. (if that makes sense) that would be everything short of R comps??
Thanks

I use to run a MR2 spyder with a body kit on it in CS. The first event I had race rubber I got protested(2 day event) on the seconed day...at a local event. No one ever cared because I wasn't competitive. This was 4ish years ago but they said the front and rear bumper put me in csp and the side skirts put me in sm2....

Well the Z has no street tire class nationally, like said earlier your region may have a local street tire class for the Z.
So you could run in BS, BSP, SM2, and then what ever prepared class it goes into.
I love how you can have performance enhancing fender flares in SP...but sideskirts bump you into SM2 with 3-rotor RX-7's lol
if you region has a website go look at results and look for a PAX "Tire" class, thats probably where you'll wana run. If you get good street tires you can probably be competitive with a BSP PAX, as long as no one protests the body - which would be pretty below-the-belt for a tire PAX class imo.

yah i keep telling myself it will be strictly for fun...but i know myself better then that. Even though i know it will be pretty impossible to be competitive in any of the current classes unless i strip my car down. (not gonna happen)
what classes are the camber adjustments allowed?
what classes are the camber adjustments allowed?
adjustable camber arms are gonna be legal for Street Prepared for 2009 I believe? lest someone can correct me. You dont have to worry about stripping your car down. you have to have both seats and pretty much full interior for street-prepared, you can yank your AC and radio though most people dont. even most SM2 cars still have two seats and most of the interior.
Go to this link SCCA and download the pdf for the 2008 Rules. They will be updated in a month or so for 2009 but it is a start.
I have seen in this forum that there are some additional allowances for camber adjustment in 2009 but have no other information.

So street prepared is basically R comps and being raped by AWD cars???And my having these Greddy skirts would actually bump me to SM2 which is definetly over the top.
and there is no STU class except the regional...

you'll only get romped by AWD cars if you go near the Berry family or a couple of those other evo's, Z's can be very competitive regionally/divisionally/at nat tours & pro solos depending on whos there. but yeah at a national level its not the car to be in. and SM2 consists of 450 whp 2200 pound RX7's with huge tires and giant wings so yeah its way over the top lol.
with your mod, chance is you can run STU class, but that's a STREET tire class, no R-compound.
AND, if your adjustable arms has spherical bearing/rod ends (most do), that will bump you to SM2 for sure because no street class or street prepare class allow metal bushing. But then again, it all depends on how straight is your regional/division and who's going to protest against you.
Depends on how competitive you want to be, I would suggest running BS with no mod and just throw on some Hooiser A6.
