i saw on their site they had a bunch listed, but it also said they were 30mins from the track. Trying to be as close as possible.
are the first two you mentioned close to the track?
headed to the SCCA double driving school Feb 12-15

Yep, these are about as close as you will get..maybe 25-30 mins from the track. I don't know of anything any closer.
These are where I normally stay.
Holiday Inn Express- : newer - good place - clean - safe- near food/shopping, not as much trailer parking area..
Red Roof Inn - Pooler ; older - Cheap and kinda plain - dirty, safe - but near food/walmart and plenty of trailer parking area
Note: There ae a bunch of hotels near the Savannah Airport...(I-95 & Hwy 80, including the Red Roof) maybe some new ones that I don't know about. The Airport is 25-30 mins from the track, and the same for all the one listed at I-95 & Hwy 80. Anything is this area is as close as you will get.
BTW: I am in Atlanta, if you need help mid-trip, or a place to stay over-nite in my area, pm me.

I think there is a Econo Lodge in Pooler. Most of the close hotels are in Pooler so start there. Bill youre gonna love Roebling. For drivers school take it easy the first few sessions in the corners as it is still a tire killer track. You might make it thru in one set if you do. If you have an questions about drving the track, call Rob, I think we still have the track records for T2 and T3. Are you going to school in the Beast? Also are you going to crew for us at the double national at VIR?

I think I have found a "decent" place in Port Wentworth. Seems to be about 10 mins from the track according to mapquest. If it was up to me I would tent it the whole weekend but can't talk the guys coming with me into doing the same. So now I am forking out a room for four days.
Laze1- Thanks for the help with places to stay. I hope we don't have any troubles heading down but if we do I will be looking you up in a hurry. Appreciate the offer greatly!!!
Bob- I have heard some horror stories about turn 1 but have also heard it is quite a fun track to be on. A lot of fast turns and just all around a good time. We are taking the "beast" down but we don't plan on running it to hard. I know the point of the weekend is to finish, no finish first. Infact, I will probably put in the 5k rev limiter just to be sure I don't get to over zealous. We have a set of half way decent tires on the car now but a new set already mounted up and on the tire rack in the trailer. As long as it doesn't rain I am good. If it does, then I will just be tip toeing around the place!! No rain slicks yet.
Not sure my plans for the double nat. just yet. I have a lot on my plate this year so weekends for me until about mid sept. are really booked. The misses and I are getting married in the fall, we are trying to sell our house and have a lot to do to make that happen, and of course still manage to get some track time in with the novice permit. So who knows for now but I will be in touch about it.

Bill, Last summer I stayed at a newer hotel by the airport. I think it was more like 15 to 20 minutes from the track. I was there with the PCA Florida Crown Region group and stayed at the event hotel.
You will love the track. I plan to go back a couple times this year.

yes, there is a new group of Hotels right off the Airport road and the bypass and very close to the track. We stayed at the Comfort Inn just two months ago, it's new and fairly nice. The other nice thing about that location is 3 gas stations and I am pretty sure one of them carried Race gas.
Don't worry about T-1 as much as turn T-8/9...(different folks number them differently) You can roll the car up in a ball
there via hitting the inside concrete wall
divider that seperate the front striaght from the pit road.
The rest of the track is smooth, fast, and pretty safe...I love it.

lol, the only person I know who had a T1 story is one who just forgot to brake. They will remain nameless to protect the guilty though.
As far as 9 goes, if you don't think you are going to make it or the car gets loose, don't try to save it. There is tons of room on the outside, but if you try to save it there is sand just off track and trying to bring it back on will send you towards the pits wall in a correction spin. Just drive it off and all will be just fine.
The only other area of any concern is the Caraselle (turn 7), just because it's a swamp there. Overall it's one of the funnest tracks around and great place to practice keeping momentum
