Default Trying something new...

Well me and my codriver have been debating what tire size to go with for this years autox season. The car is a 03 enth. Last year we ran 275's on all four corners. This year we are going to try a different set up. We are going to stick with the 275's in the front but we have decided to bigger in the rear. I know we will not have much more, if any, contact patch then the 275's but it is a taller tire. So the extra 1.5-2mph will be nice, every little bit helps...right? Anyways the 275's on the front wheels (7.5in) look the same as the 295's on the rear wheels(8in) except they are taller. And for reference the 275 v710's measured out to be a 285 off the wheel and the 295 measured out to be 305 off the wheel. Here are the pictures.

Dang that's huge! Good luck with that. I'll be running 285/30/18 on all four corners. You're installer have any probs getting those mounted?! And were you seriously having problems hitting the rev limiter in second gear? (Wait I take that back, I take for granted the revup redline)

What's the secret to getting these mounted, since you were the installer? The guy mounting mine is having problems with mine right now.

Those are big effing tires are tiny wheels. I love how autocrossing breaks the mold. My question, however, is will you be able to generate enough heat to get the larger surface up to operating temperature? My 275/40/17 V710s barely get up to temp in the cooler months.

In the cool there wasn't a ton of heat, but we also didn't feel like there was a lack of grip.

Since things have heated up, there's almost too much grip, especially on good concrete (i.e. Blytheville); getting the car rotated was tough even at full stiff in the rear. We've had to play with the setup a bit since then, but I think we have it close to right now.

As for how they got mounted: I wasn't there for the 295s, but I've seen him do it before. The key is lots of lube. Very little brute force is required.

I'm the one that mounted them....I guess a good technique and lots of lube is the key. I work at a lexus dealership in a small state so we don't have the best tire machine out there. I mounted the 275/295 combo in ~10min....

I guess the problem he is having is getting the bead to set. He can get the tire mounted over the rim, just can't set the bead.

I've heard another local guy (owns his own shop, very good wrench) say the same thing specifically about big tires for the Z.

David has never had a problem with it from what I've seen, and he's using very standard commercial tire mounting tools and compressed air. Nothing out of the ordinary.

I'm thinking the large quantity of lube inside and out helps this process too, as that is the only real discernible difference between how he does it versus others I've seen.

LUBE LUBE and more LUBE. I mean put it everywhere. Work the bead with the tire iron...I guess its all technique.

I fight more on sc430 runflat tires...lol...
