American Le Mans Race Series - Official Thread
#23
Wow, that was a great race, hopefully everyone enjoyed it.
Some interesting points:
In GT, BMW was running really well, and seems though they're starting to dial it in and will be really competitive for the remainder of the year but the Porsche was just too fast in the corners.
In LMP, the Acura's dominated even though they had some initial issues.
Final results are as follows:
P1 - Acura - Patron-Highcroft
P2- Acura - Lowes-Fernandez
GT- Porsche - Flying Lizard (just like I called it )
Next up is Long Beach on April 18th.

Bump for the Grand Prix of Long Beach, this Saturday April 19th from 4:15pm (PST) to 5:55pm (PST).
Due to the NBA playoffs starting this weekend (Go Lakers) the race will be on tape delay on your local ABC affiliate. Here on the West Coast the race will be televised Sunday, April 20th from 9:30am to 11:30am.
You can verify what time it will be televised in your area from accessing the following page: http://sports.espn.go.com/espntv/espnGuide
Regarding this race, I expect a much more competitive showing in the GT2 class with Ferrari and Porsche. Ferrari bowed out of the last race at St. Petersburg very early with some suspension issues and weren't able to have a good showing. Hopefully they can bounce back.
The full entry list is carried over from St. Petersburg with the exception of Corvette returning to the GT1 class with the two teams being the sole competitors for the class.
Below is some additional info for the race.

My prediction:
LMP1 - Acura
LMP2 - Acura
GT - Risi Competizione Ferrari F430

Long Beach Grand Prix Recap & Stop #4 this Sunday
Bump for Long Beach Grand Prix Recap & Stop #4 this Sunday
I was able to attend the Long Beach Grand Prix and was treated to some
very exciting racing action. This is definitely a series that you need to see in person to really appreciate how fast and brutal the racing can be.
ABC had official broadcast rights and really dropped the ball in promoting the initial airing of the race. It was eventually broadcast nearly two days later, and late-night as well.
SPEEDTV.com has placed recaps and highlights of the race for your enjoyment:
http://www.speedtv.com/video/popup/?...id=20864602001
First place finishers in each category for the LBGP were as follows:
-LMP1 XM Radio / Panasonic / Acura ARX-02a / Acura
-LMP2 Lowe’s / Acura ARX-01B / Acura
-GT1 Compuware / Chevrolet Corvette C6-R
-GT2 ShoreTel / Porsche 911 GT3 RSR

This weekend is stop #4 of the ALMS:
The Larry H. Miller Dealerships, Utah Grand Prix
The race will be airing on SPEED TV tape delayed on Sunday at 10pm EST.
Live qualifying will be on their website tomorrow at 5:15pm EST.
http://www.speedtv.com/programs/amer...alifying-live/
There are two additions to the race this weekend:
(1) In LMP1 – Corsa Motorsports will be bringing their Zytec chassis and competing against Acura and Lola.
The car is based on a Q10 Hybrid carbon fiber/aluminum monocoque employing typical wishbone suspension with rack and pinion steering and fitted with a Ricardo 6-speed sequential gearbox using a Q10 Hybrid electronic gear shift system.
The car will be powered through a combination of an ethanol-fueled internal combustion engine and a three-phase induction electric motor.
(2) There is also a new class to be added to the race in the ALMS challenge category.
These are specially race-equipped Porsche GT3-Cup editions that are similarly matched and should prove quite competitive amongst each other. We will just have to wait and see how they can compete against the field.
Enjoy the race!!
P.s. Keep an eye out for Jaguar to be competing very soon in the ALMS!!

Bump for results from the Larry H. Miller Dealerships Utah Grand Prix
I hope everyone enjoyed the race, there were some interesting battles in the four classes that kept the action going nearly to the end.
In P1, Acura and DeFerran motorsports drove consistently all day to their second consecutive win. Right behind them was the Highcroft-Petron Acrua that had a chance to capture the lead with nearly an hour to go but stumbled with a pit error that led to them losing valuable time and utimately the race.
The Lola-chassis Mazda cars were competitive throughout the race in P1, but had electirical issues late that also cost them the lead.
The Zytek Corsa-Motorsports hybrid powered vehicle had a sub-par performance, but they used the race as a tuning
opportunity and ran without the use of hybrid power. We'll have to wait-and-see if other teams adopt the technology.
Overall, Acura placed 1-2-3 with Lowes Fernandez team taking not only P2, but third overall.
In GT2, the Flying Lizard Porsche dominated the entire race and and lead for all but one lap to capture their third consecutive victory.
Although other teams were competitive, the reliability and consistency of the Flying Lizard team was hard to beat.
In the new ALMS challenge class, it seemed more like a game of fuel and tire management more than outright racing skill that won the race. The husband-wife Snow Racing Porsche 911 GT3 Cup ended up taking the checkered flag.
Last lap and additional highlights may be found here: http://www.speedtv.com/video/popup/?...id=23549811001
The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the American Le Mans Northeast Grand Prix from Lime Rock Park.
The race is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. EDT on Saturday, July 18 and unlike the last two races, this race will air live on SPEED TV.
