Thumbs up 24 Hours of Le Mans (This Saturday, June 12th) - Info Thread

Anyone who follows the American Le Mans Series and/or has seen the documentary "Truth in 24" will understand and appreciate this race as the the ALMS is a warmup to the 24 hours of Le Mans.

No race can match the speed, intensity and drama of this grueling endurance battle.

The race is this saturday June 12th with Live coverage on SPEED TV & Speedtv.com.

Schedule

Le Mans 24 Hours – June 12-13
SPEED Broadcast Schedule (LIVE; All Times Eastern)

Saturday, June 12

8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. - Le Mans – The Start - SPEED TV
12:30 – 6:00 p.m. Le Mans - Online @SPEED.com
6:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Le Mans - Overnight - SPEED TV

Sunday, June 13
6:00 – 9:30 a.m. Le Mans – The Finish - SPEED TV

Race Classes

Similar to the format of the ALMS:

LMP1 - 600-700 horsepower, minimum weight of 1,985 pounds, carbon fiber chassis

LMP2 - 500-550 horsepwer, minimum weight of 1,800 pounds, carbon fiber chassis

LMGT1 - 600-650 horsepower, production-vehicle based, steel chassis

LMGT2 - 400-450 horsepower, production-vehicle based, steel chassic


What to watch for:

-Audi vs Peugeot in LMP1
-Acura in LMP2
-Saleen's return to GT1
-Porsche, Ferrari & Corvette battle in GT2

LM P1 - Peugeot

LM P2 - Porsche RS Spyder

LM GT1- Corvette

The r15 is strong. I would have to give the well-oiled machine that is Team Joest the edge on sat/sun. Last year the audi's were down 10-15kmph on the straights to the peuget's, but this year it is only down 3-5kmph. As always the peugets are flying in qualifying.

Oh my god man, 'Truth in 24' was AMAZING!!!!! Man i thought Peogeot was gonna take it then at the last minute Audi decides to go intermediates and gets them the win!

WOW!! THat doc TRULY was one of the best i have ever seen, and gave me a new profound love for Le Mans.

I WILL DEF BE WATCHING TOM, thanks for the info!!

not a big deal, I've never watched LeMans before. If it were F1 I'd be upset...

Drama so far, Audi crashes early but not too much damage.

Two of the Peugeots crash into each other in the pits and destroy the left rear tire, bodywork and suspension of a factory car.

This is gonna be great!!

Fantastic race, I watched about 9 hours total

I wish they would let rotary powered cars in! Banned back when the 787B won!

Audi takes it! I was surprised by Nigel Mansell crashing early in the race too.
