Default Critique my wheel/tire set up

Hey guys, new 08 base owner here looking for a track wheel/tire set up. I have experience tracking a square set up on my S14, but since the Z is a totally different beast I have some questions on how a beginner/intermediate driver will fare on a square set up. The s14 was set up to be pretty balanced with a bit of understeer near the limit so I'm worried jumping straight to a square set up on the Z, which I gathered from searching is neutral with oversteer tendencies, will be too steep of a learning curve so to speak.

I was thinking of getting 17x9.5 +18 RPF1s with 255/275s first which will give me an opportunity to get used to driving the Z at the limit with that safety net. Later on when I'm comfortable I will probably move to 275s all around. I figured this is a good place to get some more opinions, all insight/critique/ newbie bashing is welcomed =p... btw the tires will be street tires.

I like your plan, though I'd likely jump right to the 275s all around.

I'd go square too. If the oversteer is ridiculous you can compensate with some more front sway bar.

Hey this guy doesn't even drive a Z! Shouldn't you be somewhere else, say bimmerforums? Let me guess, you're sitting at starbucks sipping a $5 coffee. So that's 3 votes for square set up.
