The car will be more competitive for less money in STR than in BSP. On smaller, tighter courses the Z actually does well thanks to its good low-end torque. The other cars (S2K, MX-5) are continually shifting back and forth between first and second, while the Z can usually just pull second the whole time.
btw, OWTCAST, PM me if you're interested in a set of 17x8.5 +35 SSR Type C RS in Anthracite. <17lbs each, and look almost new.

As for more offset, I don't really know why you'd want more aside from aesthetics. The car is already wide enough as it is, and if you kick in the camber you're going to need to be fast on street tires, the +35s will stick out of the wheel wells at the bottom anyway (they do on my car). Adding to that just makes it that much harder to slalom at the speeds you'll need to to keep up with the narrower S2Ks and MX-5s.
Anyway, let me know. I won't be able to put the car back to stock until mid-August anyway.

OK, if you're going to run in the ST category you have four tires to choose from if you want to be even remotely competitive:
Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Hankook Ventus RS3
Kumho Ecsta XS
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08
Your size choices are basically:
255/40-17
255/35-18
255/40-18
IMHO, the 255/40-17 and the 255/35-18 are the two sizes worth looking at.

Is there anything considered the "best" tire of are those four a good toss up?
Thanks again to everyone for the input. All the info and "Arguing" in other areas is fairly overwhelming..
PS very hard to find those tires in the right size.... lol

There is no "best." Each tire has its own strengths. The Dunlop heats up quickest and is fastest in the early runs. The Kumho is slower to heat up but can handle heat better. The Hankook has the best grip but the steering response is vague. The Yokohama handles heat the best and is consistent but generally slower then the others.
FYI... the time differences are very slight.

Personally, I'd say learn to shift up to third and back down if you're on high-speed courses that much. It's not really that tough, and it's easier than shifting down to first like the S2Ks and Miatas have to do sometimes.
Or you could always raise the rev limiter and spin the engine another 500-800rpms for a few more mph. A bit risky, but it's legal.

If I were to have two sets of tires for the seasons, I would use:
AD08: spring/winter
Star Specs: summer/fall
You can't go wrong with either tire though. Set-up is key in extracting the most potential out of any of the top tires

IIRC 275 size won't allow you to run in STR, so you are stuck with STU class. If you don't care about being competitive, you can run the stock class or street prepare class as well
Not the best choice for autoX, look into Bstone RE11 or Dunlop Z1 star spec for car weight more than 3000lbs
Different car setup, different driver, different track condition. When I ran my G35 in STX class with non stagger 245 size Dunlop Z1; I feel comfortable with 33.5psi hot (front) 35psi hot (rear) on asphalt; 36psi hot all the way around on concrete. Car is near bone stock.
Hope that helps

THAT HELPED A TON.. lol

I am shooting to change my wheel/tire setup to be STR legal

Thank you.. the more i read the more I like what i heard on the dunlops
Understeer in entrance? mid corner? Obviously you are not understeering on the exit, but it sounds like it can be adjust by driving style. It's difficult to give you a definitive answer
Car understeered literally til i used the throttle to bring it around... I tried to run it easy and drive it in smooth and lost 2 seconds. I was sliding the rear just to get it to rotate on the tight corners.

Do you recommend more rear then front?? Or is this all just circumstantial I assume??
You can't go wrong with 2nd gear in most tight course, you have enough torque to drive you out. Most shifting mess up balance and waste time.
I never tried just running second gear... if I am ever on a course that tight again I definitely will
