Default 18x9 Wheel.. hard to find??

Okay... so Im thinking of ditching my staggered RPF01 Setup for a square 18x9 setup. Running BSP is just dumb with a Z... and if I am going to buy rubber to go Rcomp I'd rather get setup for STR where the Z has a little more of a fighting chance.. (I THINK)

BUT.... I for the life of me can not find a good light weight wheel in 18x9.. Or maybe 17x9?? I'd like to clear some brembos if I get the dough to buy some.

I apologize for another wheel thread Im just trying to find some in a decent offset.. (most 18x9 is like 30-40's)

Thanks guys/gals

STR is 255mm Street tire class (140+ Treadwear)........no R-Comps.

To answer you question.. Yes 18x9 are extremely difficult to come by, my LM's are 18x9 in the front and as far as I know LM's are built to order. Im thinking you may have to find a used set of wheels or have them built. GL

Sorry 03 ... Bad wording...

I meant I want to spend my money buying a setup I can somewhat compete with.

I don't think the wheel is hard to find, it's the offset that makes it more custom.
I test mounted one back in the day and it hit the a-arm. Cleared BBK, though.

for auto x 17's are lighter and much cheaper on tires.

If you wanna run 18's in STR, a really good setup is to get (4) 18x8.5 rear 1st gen track wheels. The fronts are 18x8, but the rears are 18x8.5.

I'm currently running (4) 18x8.5 Rear Rays Track Wheels with 265/40/18 RE-11's no problem so 255's will fit very well. The only problem I found was it was hard to find 255/40/18 (if you wanna keep stock height) in a high performance street tire (maybe more options out there now)

I'd just check if they clear brembos up front, but they're made to clear in the rear. Plus you can pick up a set for $600-$800 and sell off the fronts to some 240 guys since they like to run our wheels

edit: PLUS, they weigh like 18lbs each similar to RPF1's

AWESOME.....

I must say... Im a little half and half on the autoX.

Coming from closed course karts im used to letting the kart work in and out of corners.. carrying speed etc. I have won a couple track championships locally blah blah blah.

Anyways.. auto X seems to be much different. I have never driven a full size car on a road course but im wondering how some road course guys feel about auto X.

I think I am going to start looking for some track wheels now that you mention it... I was wonder what size they were lol.

Thanks again guys..... today was a bad day of auto X for me lol

I just replaced my SSR Comps that are 18x9 +31 with 18x10.5 RPF1s but haven't documented them for a full FS thread yet. I've run 255 RE01Rs as well as 285 V710s on them.

I also have a set of 4 x 18x8.5" stock 06'+ wheels that I've been considering selling.

PM me if interested.

Here's a decent affordable 18x9 or 17x9 wheel that is reasonably strong and light. Its commonly used by the Miata Spec racers (the website says they are now the official wheel of a couple touring car championships).
Offsets are 15, 20, and 30
However you have to confirm the pattern is available.

Right now Im looking at the SSR's, or OEM track wheels.

Problem is I had to moreless pay cash for my Z and I still cant get the auto loan to replenish my savings on it yet.. which means im stuck unless I sell my RPF01's lol

Thanks for all the input guys.. well appreciated.

-autoX nothing like closed course
-really want to end up closed course
-really can only afford an STR Z
-wondering If I should for sure do STR Z or save for HPDE

And really.. thank you to everyone this has been a successful thread for me =) And I appreciate the understanding of my ignorance.
