Default Open Road Racing

Doesn't seem to be a big following here....

But there are still slots available for the Marfa Presidio Open Road Race.
mporr.net

I'm ready!

A few Pics of the course...

Sick car. Don't you have to have a comp license to do that or no?

Actually if you attend their "rookie" school..they issue you a license...you are limited to the 110mph class with a top speed of 124mph your first time...

I just swapped in a new CD009 tranny and it is smooth as silk...got my wing on and am going to try to run the 130 class with a top speed of 168mph..

Probably because 95 percent of members do not live in Texas.

How do you race on the highway?
What about vehicles coming towards you?
One wrong move and you go into the side of a mountain? This is one hell of a road course.

Roads are closed to the public for the events.

Holy crap... that looks insane. I think I'm going to have to look into it... We in Florida do 0-1 mile runs and that looks like a fun road trip.

I’m all over that! Open road racing has been a dream of mine since I read about the Silver State Classic and the antics of “Big Red”. I’m still a rookie, I’m doing my first drivers clinic this October but who knows, I may join you next year if my skills and vehicle are up to it. Best of luck and please update us on the event.

No cage..yes I know I know...I am at that proverbial "make it a race car or keep it a street car stage" I have a 6 point and harness bar...I absolutely need at least a hoop behind the seats and am fully aware of the dangers of rolling etc etc. I really would like to have a purpose built car for this! maybe i can get another Z and cage it etc..I have 530 to the tire and its just really not needed in these races.. As always I pray I keep the rubber side down! this will be my 4th open road race..

Yes the road is closed with a permit from DOT. ANY gate to the road is blocked and manned at all times during a race,,there are 2 airplanes running up and down the road during the race and starflight is standing by just in case...the local police and sherriff's dept.s all support, man and tech for the race.. There are eyes for almost every inch of the road and radios every 5 miles with repeaters...they can get to you QUICK if something goes wrong..
Absolutely THE most fun I have ever had!

Agreed. You'd need to really push it in the straights to make up the time lost in the twisties.

all of the open road challenges are on public roads.

most have rules that state if you get a speeding ticket in the course radius in the time before the race then you serve a year or so ban from the competition.

they are very strict on safety as well--much more so than your average road track.

Open Road is absolutly awsome. And so is Big Red. I personally am building a car(not my 350Z) targeting the 190mph class
