Default you wanna race? try the ChumpCars

http://chumpcar.com/about.php

I just rented a ride in a 94 Z32 300z for $700....from some guys I never met before...

We finished 10th both days (I think). The Z32 was a CrapCan, but all the team drivers (all local round-track drivers) were running in the 1:32 range. I had been directed NOT to exceed 5k RPM, well that wasn’t a problem as the car would only turn 5500 during the beginning of session with full tanks, and 4000-4500 when it was “sick”…A good lap had top speed @ 110 entering T1…not a bad car when running OK, and not starving for fuel (when it was sick, 85 MPH was top speed) . Besides fuel starvation even with ½ tank of gas, the car would just intermittently lose power, and/or start mis-firing/cut off. I think we had a Heat related misfire…electronics and maybe boiling gas…so I suggested we removed the hood for greater cooling, we removed it, and the car ran faster. We also relocated the ECU from mounted to the floorboard to hanging from the roll cage to give better airflow…this did improve the performance.

I drove pretty well, and was passing guys everywhere when the car had any power, and was passing people even when it was sick…but had to work a lot harder :-0 You could really drive the thing into the corner pretty hard and have predicable handling…so I was passing at all point on the backside of the track…it was a blast. Overall, I can best describe it as a WFO HPDE w/OPEN Passing. I got about 5 hours of seat-time for $700…pretty good deal even in a crapcan.

In my last session of the day on Sunday, I had been trying to lap a car to put him one lap down since he was in 11th place and I was in 10th. The guys on the radio keep saying “dive it like you stole it” , Pass that ******”, etc. So I was doing all I could to get around a car that was “very wide” (common Chumpcar blocking technique) after 4 laps of trying, I finally got beside him exiting T5. I changed my line to Miata-sweeper style line hugging track-right entering T5, then turned-in so that I could stay track-left after the T5 Apex…the other car tracked out to track right as normal. Well we where now door-to-door and he tries to go to track left to setup for T6/T7…well that wouldn’t work very well because I was on his left. So we bang doors, he kinda spins in front of me as we enter T6, I stay in the throttle to try to push him out of my way…until we both we straight off track into the sand/tire wall. We both end up nose to the sky hung up on the tire wall.

RED FLAG TIME!!!

The safety crews come out, pull us off the tire walls, the other driver said he never saw me (right?) and apologized , and then we go back to racing

Both cars had damage, but it was hard to tell. We did finish in front of that car in the end.

Looking forwards to doing this again…you should do this…

Looks like fun - same as our adventures in a 72' 240Z running in the 24 Hours of Lemons. Tell them to run the Dunlop Star Spec next time, as they are way better than the RT615 (or were you guys running the 615K?).

we ran the "New Version Azenis" what ever that is called (tread pattern looked the same as I have seen before, maybe a compound change)

I rented the ride, and didn't have anything to do with the prep or at track maintenance...and that was a nice change.

Sounds like the 615"k".

Our team is not going to make Lemons at Sears Point / Infineon Raceway at the end of March, so I'm thinking about renting a spot with a team as well.

I will have to say, the tires held up GREAT, with good linear traction for the entire 7 hour race..with very little wear...during my 90 minute runs, they never "went-off" or got greasy...unless i did something stupid like "over-drive" the tires.

Note: Roebling is not hard on tires or brakes, it is a high speed track with sweeping corners...and our car car had too little power to spin the tires at this speed

man sounds like so much fun, I'm assuming there's a minimum amount of skill level required since they probably don't want some novice totaling their car.

Here's a recent posting for a chumpcar in texas with a BMW 325e

Well...that is the scary part...no previous experience required

You pay like $25 and attend a 2 hour class the day before the race...and you are good to go

the school and license.) Definition of “NOVICE”: A novice, first-time road race driver is
