Default Track wheels

First off, I have a g35 coupe. i plan to get into some tracking this summer. some reading on here shows that the rpf1s are pretty popular. but, i was also considering widening my oem 19" rays through www.weldcraftwheels.com. that way i could choose the width of the front and rear wheels, instead of choosing from the available wheels. i need to keep at least an 18" wheel for brake caliper clearances. what are your thoughts on widening the oem 19s? i believe the front and rears weigh 19lbs and 21lbs respectively.

Having your wheels made wider only adds to the inside, so you will need spacers to bring them out a bit. It will be around $200 a wheel with spacers to have this done. For around the same price you can get a set of Rota's in 18x9.5 in a proper offset. 18's also have more available tires, 19's are really limited. I would look into a 18x9.5 setup with 275/35-18 front and 275/40 or 285/35-18 or 295/35-18 rear.

You would need to bump up to 18x10 to run 295's out back. Then for an extra $100 a wheel you can get into a set of Enkei wheels.

Thanks, I already have ichiba v2 spacers so that's not a problem. But are spacers even allowed on the track? I was just going to leave them off and sacrifice that inch or so of tuck, or will the wheels being in that little bit affect the handling quite a bit? And aren't those enkei wheels a little over 20lbs?

Or I could widen a set of v1 track 18s

RPF1 in 18x9.5 and 18x10.5 are under 20 pounds each. The Rota wheels are around 21 pounds each.

Yes spacers are allowed on the track , most places say nothing more than 1 inch (25mm)

What about 18x9.5 all around, then 255/35 front and 285/35 rear?

I think you should be fine with any Enkei wheel from their racing line (includes the PF01).

Also, I agree with Terrasmak that there are some good choices out there that are reasonably lightweight and reasonably priced (enkei, rota, 5zigen) vs. trying to have material added to your current wheels. Just remember, when you add spacers or material to your current wheels, you will add weight.

Not optimum (255 should be on a 8.5 or 9 inch rim and 285 should be on a 10 or 10.5 inch rim) but it would probably work. You probably could go 265 front.

I would do a minimum of 265 up front and sure as hell would not want a 30mm stagger in width from front to rear.

ok, why not? does that affect handling?

only reason i thought of that combo was to try and keep the same height difference from front to back like stock. and the stock tires are 20mm apart so i figured it was ok.

Big stagger = more understeer....not as neutral. I'd run 275/35 square.

Having the height difference is nice, at least i like the way the car handles with the difference in height. Thats wy i ran 275/35 front and 275/40 rear last year. A few more day on the track and bumping up to the 285/35 , but keeping the front tire the same.

03threefiftyz already answered the other part.

Actually you can, its a great NA wheel, but the offset sucks for the FI crowd that could use wide rubber.

ok, so when you mention the stagger, that is referring to the width, not the height, correct?

so will going up to the 285 on the rear really help that much? even though you will be sacrificing the difference in height that you liked? will going with 275/35 all the way around mess with the ecu since the rears are taller than the fronts stock?

Yes it can mess with the ECU , some cars are more sensitive than others. The 285 in the rear will give me a slightly taller tire than the front, a little more grip and slightly better acceleration do to the change in final drive. I'm also set up with a stagger in wheel width, so i would have to buy another set of rear wheels to run 275/35 all around. But no i didn't like the way my car handles with 275/40-17 all around. That is the same as 275/35-18 all around.

Before investing in something you may want to see how the car handles on track out of the box, then make changes according to the way you would like it to feel,

Are you running OEM Brembo? 17's fit over OEM brakes.

I run 275/40/17 square.
