Default Autocross question

I autocross on occasion, am a novice. Recently bought new wheels/tires for my car and after doing this I thought about if I just owned myself into a different class.

Have 19x9.5/19x8.5 with 265/285 width tires. Was in STR due to intake.

Was reading the rulebook and it looks like I would be no longer in STR because of this, but I can't seem to find what class I would be in now. Or am I wrong?

I need to look up the latest rules, i have been away from autocross for a while. You may be over in BSP now. What did you do to your old wheels, best thing is use them for dedicated track wheels.

BTW yesterday was a great event. I let my wife run, the course had great flow to it, fun times. A lot of Z's too.

I would get dedicated autocross tires for my 2nd set of wheels but i will have to see when I get home tonight if there is enough room in this car for that. Couldn't fit my new ones but less width could make a difference. This is my only car so what I can fit in it I can take.

Thanks for the info.

I can fit 4 18x10" with 305's in the car (removing all the spare/tools/carpet)

Your car wouldn't be legal for STR anymore as is. BSP or perhaps your region has an open street tire class of some sort.

Good to know.

I guess this gives me an excuse to buy plenum spacer and a front sway bar

1 in the rear where the spare goes.

1 behind the seats between the seats and the strut bar

2 in the passenger seat (kills all visibility out that side of the car though)

I just change tires before the event. What are your stock wheels?

Unless something changed they are either

17x7.5F and 17x8R

or 18x8 all the way around

STR limits wheel width to 9" and tire width to 255. You could run in CS if you just put the stock airbox back on and then swapped to stock wheels before each event.

I would do this but I dont have the OEM part, when I bought this car used they only had the aftermarket intake.

That is a good idea so i'm going to go look for one.

Throw some 255/40-17's , Dunlop Star spec or Hankook RS3 on your stock wheels and run STR. Perfect and cheap. Then later upgrade to wider wheels, maybe bump your self out of the class as you progress, or build to the limits of the class.
