Lime Rock Park 86db . . .?
Perhaps this would be more appropriate in the regional forum, mods feel free to move it there if you see fit.
I had signed up for the opening NASA Northeast event this year at Lime Rock. I've done events in the past with them at Monticello, NJMP and the Glen. Was looking forward to this one as the track looks like a blast, but I just read through my confirmation email and it indicates a "strict" 86db sound limit.
86db is . . . not very much. My car currently has ART's and TDXv2, and I'm quite certain that at WOT there's no way I'm near that number. I don't have long to cancel and get my money back, I was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience in this area. From my initial quick googling I see folks who say they don't actually measure, folks who say they got black flagged, etc. Seems to be a mixed bag.
I guess I could put my stock exhaust back on with the ARTs but there's something so disheartening about handicapping the car that I put my time and money into. It seems a bit crazy for a track to have such a low noise policy - there are factory cars that I'm sure approach or break 86 db easily.
Any personal experiences? Advice? Are they really strict? I was really looking forward to this event / track.

There are factory cars that can't clear 86db in certain conditions. I blew 95-96db at the Dixie National Tour last weekend. You are going to need to put on your stock exhaust and most likely cats to clear that.
I remember reading how people had this issue at I think laguna seca. at some point around the track there was a mic to test the db of cars as they passed by. so people used to put coffee cans over their exhausts, slipping them over the tips, and create a flap that would angle away from the mic.
seems pretty bootleg, but it could work?

You can just put turn downs on (and point them in the opposite direction of the mic) if you are a db or two over. From what I've heard, Lime rock, like Laguna and autoclub, has a pain in the *** neighbor (that moved in full knowledge of the track being there) that won't stop complaining.
Thanks for the input. Kind of frustrated NASA didn't indicate anything about the restriction on the signup. Only in the confirmation email a week before the event - hopefully I can get my money back. Signed up for the Glen 2 day at the end of March instead ^^
I was at Lime Rock Park for the SRT experience and because of this pain in the *** person they couldn't bring out the comp coupe viper on the main track only on the autocross track and a comp coupe viper on an autocross track is just a tease!!! I hate people like that because of them they ruin the fun for so many people. And they informed us that it is a neighbor that is complaining so that is 100% a fact as to the reason why.
I think the stock Nismo exhaust is higher then 86db.

well its too late for me to cancel, so my best option is to reinstall my cats and pray my true dual is not too load. What pisses me off though is that I didn't find out about the 86db limit at lime rock until Friday afternoon 8 days before the event via a confirmation email, but PDA driving school has a cancellation policy of 7 days before the event max, otherwise no cash back for you.
As a sidenote Lime Rock Park is one of the older/historic tracks in this country, so obviously someone had to move in full well knowing about the racetrack next door and then complain and go "Who put this racetrack here !?!?" .... gets my blood boiling, just another example of idiot people being idiots because their idiots and ruining it for everyone else.

The noise restrictions should not have come as a "complete" surprise to you. They have been in effect at Lime Rock for years. The noise restrictions are shown on their website. While the decibel level isn't mentioned, I think there is sufficient information for you to ask questions. Here is a link to the page on their website.

I was going to go to this event but apart from the DB restriction they got tons of fees on top of the registration just not worth it in my opinion. I have gone there with different clubs and never had a issue.

I don't disagree here, there were ways for me to find this out beforehand. Unfortunately I didn't, and being that I only started tracking last year its not unthinkable that someone like me might omit this fact. Either way I wish PDA was slightly more diligent in making their students more aware of this especially ones visiting lime rock for the first time. Oh well, live and learn, guess ill be spending some time under my car tonight :/

+1, but I've read LS is much more strictly enforced than Lime Rock, which seems to be dependent on time of day/mood of the staff.
My final resolution for lime rock is swapping in cats and I found some turn down el-cheapo looking universal tips at autozone which I'll put on if I get black flagged with my invidia exhaust.

Just signed up for a Laguna Seca event and figure I will put back on a stock exhaust...figure should be able to be at or under 92db.
Would be very tough to get to 86db...that is pretty low

so after all that, there was NO ONE checking the cars flying by, not one person got black flagged at lime rock this weekend for a loud exhaust and there were some straight pipes loudasshit cars
