I know everyone loves these tires and I was just wondering how many track days/sessions you guys are getting out of your tires? I only have 3 track days on mine and they are shot, I doubt I could get a full day out of them.

Im also getting a lot of shoulder wear which Im sure is from a combination of my crappy driving/lack of camber up front/and having to play with tire pressure, I usually try for 34 hot in the fronts, anyone have any suggestions

 

More camber and a little bit more camber....then add just a tiny bit more camber. 34psi hot seem low for RS3's.

What are your temp spreads across the tire?

 

I need to invest in a pyrometer so im not sure what the spread is like. I was trying 38 hot and was getting similar wear. From what I read on here most people were running 34hot in the front.

 

In my experience these tires like a lot of camber and pretty high pressure (38 - 40 psi hot), lacking camber you are left with with pressure to try and keep the tire from rolling over and also smoothing out you turn in/weight transfer. If you have a front sway bar you might also try setting it to full stiff to slow roll over.

I run the pressure a lot higher than that. I got 6 days out of them easy, and they'd still be going but I flat spotted one of them when I lose ABS.

I usually set them to 35 cold, then try to keep them at about 40 hot when I pull off.

 

I'm running mine at 34 hot front , 33 hot rear and have 4 days on them now with around 60% tread left. My camber is set at -3.1 front and -2.2 rear.

Not having camber will kill the fronts, and not having a diff will kill the rears.

 

yeah, stock suspension here so i guess ill just have to play with tire pressures and driving style to make it work. I was looking at trying the nitto nt05s since they are like 50$ a tire cheaper and going with a 245/40/18 all around on my track wheels and see how that goes.

 

NT05's are the slowest "trackable" street tires I have ran and they don't last.

I have only ran the RS-3's on other people's cars so I have no personal experience with longevity. (Although I have been told by owners that they wear faster than Star Specs and Kumho's XS's.

The XS's are nice on dry pavement but really bad in the wet. They last well enough also.

The Star Specs are the fastest street tire I have owned, by a small margin. They last pretty well too. My only problem with them is that the tread compound's grip went down hill before the tread was all gone.

 

Star specs are dual compound...once you reach 1/2 tread they fall off pretty quickly in my experience.

 

NT05 falls off very fast after 2 days on the track, they also don't last very long. 2nd day I can have them at the wear bars, traction goes away , rock hard , but will last another 4 days at really crappy grip levels if you don't daily drive on them. I ran NT05 for the past 2 years till I swapped to RS3.

 

i was just going to give them a shot, even if they last 2-3 days thats the same im getting out of my rs3s give or take. im sure im not driving well enough to take advantage of the difference in grip between the two. who knows, expensive hobby either way -.-

 

How far down do you run them? With stock suspension I added front arms and ran -1.5 camber, than made the tires last a lot longer. I do have my old Megan camber arms I can sell you pretty cheap if your interested. They have been on the car for 5 years without problem.

 

I mean my fronts are at the wear bars with some nice shoulder wear, ill probably cord them on the shoulders on my next day. I could probably get a partial day out of them, just not sure its worth it to go out there knowing im going to cord them, and then be done as im not super comfortable driving on corded tires even tho i know many people do.

Have you flipped them yet? Inside becomes the outside, now you have a fresh shoulder to tear up.

 

i would suggest nt01's, they last a ton longer then nt05's and have solid traction/predictable

 

already flipped them after the first 2 days :/

and i thought about r compounds but figured it would be better to stick to street tires for the moment as im still learning the car etc.

 

5 years now, still haven't been out on R comps, I love running down the R comp guys at the track with my street tires , I also love running my mostly full interiour street car in the red group too. Next season I'll get out on some race tires.

 

Mine lasted way more than that. I put 4 track days, about 8 autox events, drove across country a couple times, and daily drove on them. Your set up, use, and track will change the longevity, though. As mentioned above, you need to get a proper alignment and also up the tire pressure. These tires do better at the track with tire pressure between 38-40 from my experience.

my RS3 are at 3/32 and theres a track day on the 15th on this month (buttonwillow)

do you guys think ill be fine tracking on a 3/32 tread depth tire?
