Default Wheels/Tires for the Track - Need some help

Hi guys,

I've done a lot of research, but I need help verifying some of the information I gathered. I am going to purchase 17 inch wheels/tires for future track days. My Z has coilover and was dropped 1 inch from stock. From what I research, the maximum safe, no fender rub wheel size is 9.5 with a tire size of 275/40. Is this accurate? If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
I am looking to get Enkei RP03 wheels square all around with 275/40 tires.

Thanks,
Hyde

I'm running 5Zigens 17x10 +25 square with 255/40 now. My last set of tires were 275/40, no rubbing issues. I have about 1" drop all around as well.

Pretty sure you'll be okay. I'm assuming no fender rolling has been done?

Search a little more, make sure the wheels fit over your brakes. I know OEM brembo has problems with some Enkies

That is excellent news. It is nice to get some positive affirmation. cyc5181, how is the 25 offset? I think I may mirror your setup. Have you taken those wheels to the track?
How does 17x10 +18 with 275/40 sound?

Great, I am glad to know that. Correct, my fenders aren't rolled.

Anyone have any good wheel suggestions? I am currently looking at Enkei wheels.

it'll be close but i think you'll still be ok. what tire are you going to run? if you have an aftermarket front camber arm to dial in more camber you'll be ok too.

<- running 17x10 +18 with 255/40/17 rs3's, lowered about an inch and still have a bit of fender clearance.

this guys running a few 17x10 setups, but he's lowered more:

If it makes any difference, I've ran 275/35/18 slicks on the Track (version 1) wheels and had no problems with any kind of rubbing. No fender rolling sitting on the stock 'track' suspension package.

The stock track wheels are 18x8 30mm and 18x8.8 33mm.

Oh wow, this kind of answers my question. Those are the exact wheels I am considering! Thanks Voboy!
I am either going to get the Enkei RP03 or RPF1. If you haven't seen them here is a link:
RP03 http://www.enkei.com/rp03.shtml
RPF1 http://www.enkei.com/rpf1.shtml#

I think the RP03 may have a better look on the car, but weight 4-5 pounds more. I think I may stick with the RPF1 since the link Voboy posted has a picture of them on a Z. Not too shabby looking if I say so myself

IMO, the Enkei RPF1's are the best bang for the buck track wheel out there now.

My car is pretty heavily modified, but I have a square setup, 295/30 18 Hoosier A6's on 18x10.5 ET 15 wheels with no spacers, and I am running unmodified front fenders and rear quarter panels. It's a tight fit in the front, and I have a light rub on the left rear, but that should give you an idea that what you are looking to do is reasonable.

A couple of pics of the wheels on my car:

You can run the 17x10 +25 FN01R-Cs with 275/40/17s, but I suggest a tiny (2-3mm) shim spacer up front to clear any caliper that's not the OEM non-Brembo.

Again, 17" RPF1s have an oddly-designed inner contour, which interferes with many brake kits (Brembo, Stoptech). If you want the Enkeis, I suggest a nice 18" set-up.

I am running the RPF1 17x10 ET18 with 295/35/17 tire. Front end is at -3* camber and the fenders have not been modified. In the rear I am running close to -1.5* camber and I had to roll both side significantly.

My advice with this platform though is to run 18s with 285/30 18 tire which is readily available in lots of compounds and you will not have problems with fitting proper size brakes on the car. I will be forced to sell my setup once I run down the tires because the brake setup I have in mind will not clear the 17s...

My 17" RPF1 clears Stoptech ST40 w/ 330mm rotor fwiw.

What diameter and offset? I had a problem with the 9.5 +35 (38?), even with spacers because of the wheel design.

17x10 +18

tons of space left for the face.... fair amount of space for the inner diameter

FWIW, i run square 17x9.5 et30 Volk G2 with 275/40/17 for track days. Very light wheel: I weighed one on a digital scale when i picked them up and they came in a 17.5 pounds per wheel.

No rubbing, but its close. Stock ride height. I know people run lower offsets, but i would be wary of rubbing on the front fenders in corners (especially in banking).

275 is well suited to a 10.5 for TT stuff.
