Default Tires

Been to the track a couple times and now its time to change the tires. mods feel free to move to proper forum.

So ive been doing some research abut what tires to get as i need to change mine in a month, im sticking with my hankook ventus v12s, they are good fro street and autocross.

my question is i want to go up a size to 235/40/18 and 255/40/18 or doing a 245/40/18 and 245/45/18 on stock wheels, I saw that the 40 sidewall and 45sidewall are not too far apart and would be ok for this use, BUT

Will this increase or decrease the handling because the sidewall is smaller because our oem tires are 45s?

Will the "square" setup of 245/40/18 and 245/45/18 affect handling in anyway other than oversteer?

Or Should I wait to get a bigger wheel setup and upgrade tire size than to prevent any mishaps?

Car is 06 enthusiast daily driven and tracked occasionally. Looks come second, I want to get the cars performance right than upgrade looks.

245/40 and 245/45 will work great, great balance, and fun setup.

When I started doing track days about 2 years ago I went with 245/40 and 245/45 Dunlop Direzza Star Specs. Handling is fine, no oversteer issues at all, very balanced. I have used two sets in this size and have been very happy with them.

I went through two sets of 245/45/18 square all seasons this past summer. It forced me to learn car control or end up in the sand traps(which I did do a few times lol)

I LOVE square set-up's on N/A VQ cars, it is so neutral and just feels amazing.

I ran 245/40/18's square on the 06 touring rims for a while and still use that setup ocasionally for testing. Being able to rotate F/R is a bonus. This setup worked great for quite a few HPDE's, was able to dial the car in nicely.

Square setup all the way!

If you set the shocks and/or tyre pressure front and rear correctly, you can even induce some oversteer when you brake into a corner. Makes the car rotate faster.

245 is a good start. Take your time to progress and get familiarized with the new setup before pushing really hard to "avoid mishaps"

RPF1's are the way to go in my opinion, great bang for the buck. I'm on my first set of RS3's and coming from v12's its a world of a difference. keep up the tracking its what these cars were made for.

Yes they are that much better, I had V12's for the street and RS3 for the track. Night and day difference.

So stuartc323 are you going to hit Willow on Sunday with all of us.
