Default Z to STU...what do you think

SCCA August FastTrack minutes

Moving the Z and other "muscle cars" to STU to play with the rally cars.

Thoughts?

Better suited to the tire restrictions in STU than STR IMO.

Meh. Corvette class? Not even sure who top dog would be now. Most def not the Z. Better chance than the STR 255mm handicap.

I think it should do fine. Taking what Peters has done with the Z in STR and giving it some more tire, I am thinking it has just as good a chance or better in STU.

After last weekend's ProSolo in Packwood, I'm not sure.

But then again, I was lined up against an STU STI -- and he didn't pull on me too much at the start. That opened some eyes (and a few people commented on that to me)...

I've seen Luster pull 1.58-1.59 60's at Pro's....

He walks my E85 powered BSP car like a dog from the start and digs.

I like the idea personally. I've had my Z (stock) on some left over 255 RS3s from my RTA 2011 WRX, and could just tell that the car was begging for more tire. I think the Z could be a good STU car, but the nut behind the wheel would need to be really tight. I'm more inclined to try a STU build than an STR build though, so it might be a better place for the car to see more entries?

I think the C5's are going to prove to be pretty tough in STU trim. Basically 3000lbs, 350-360whp, able to run a good diff, etc...

I agree with that statement. They are for sure the "overdog" of the group. Full prep'd C5 with a good driver is going to be the one to watch. It would be silly to think that a 350Z would be as good or better. I like to think that with the driver mod a 350Z will at least hold its own.

Hey Guys.. new guy here, but not new to autox.
I'm posting here because, well, this change is what got me thinking about a Z enough to put my STX WRX up for sale.

I think it has a lot of potential in STU.
I think the biggest advantage the 350 is going to have is it's gearing vs the vette, as well as tire sizing. Not alot of manufactures putting out 285s in sizes that would work well for the vette, not to mention it's stepping backward from a control standpoint.

That, and the Z is just a much nicer car IMHO.
