I'd really prefer not making a living shaving people's nuts. More than glad for a friend but if I slip shaving other's than I dont want to hear them scream

Do you know the thread pitch on the ball joint mounting rod?

Place like McMaster, Fastenal, etc sell jam nuts that are thinner than normal nuts. If the thread pitch is known it might be as easy as ordering up some nuts from one of those places.

Both ends of the ball joint are 3/4 - 16 thread. The threads into the a arm already have a thin nut, McMaster did not have anything thinner, so milled them down to about 2.5-3 threads ( approx .275" total thickness)

Thanks, that's good info to know. Looks like I'll have to modify the standard nuts when I install mine so I don't have to pull them back off later.

The good news is the alignment was a success. I was able to pax 12th overall at the Bristol Match tour with just average driving.

The bad news is a friend of mine totaled the Z (and almost himself) at ZdayZ, just days later. He is now out of ICU and is expected to be fine.

Oh no! Sorry to hear about this man. Thank god your friend is ok. I know what your going thru with the car. Happened to me in April. My Z was totaled by a driver not paying attention on the highway that traffic had stopped at a toll booth and he rear-ended me. If you are able to salvage any of your parts like I was you can find another Z. I ended up finding another 2008 base coupe with 30k miles and transferred over all my STU parts in a 4 day build and made it to the Wilmington Pro. Now i am changing out a clutch after that event lol.

where there is a will there is a way

Just read this whole thread, lots of good info in here. This is my second season driving is CS. I am going to move the car into STU, I am trying to compose a list of parts to start off with, I am learning a lot from all of you, so thank you for sharing! I plan to drive at some national events next year for the first time, hope to see some of you at the events. Again, thanks for sharing your build stories/specs.

For those following this thread:

I got to drive Mike's car with the last setup before it was totaled.

Our autocross test and tune course is approx 37 seconds for the average car as background.

His car felt like it was literally 2 feet shorter and slalomed like a miata, it was simply amazing.

My Z is no longer daily duty so i'll be mirroring his alignment in the coming weeks. I'm also running the exact same revalved koni coilover and swaybar setup.

Thats what I get for trying to get the last out of a set of tires. You know full and well with fresh tires I'd have had both you and Chris in the S2k

I want to join the fun. Just picked up an 2007 350z Enthusiast. Planning to do a STU prep within 2 years due to budgetary limitations. I have read through all the posts, tons of good info here.

Plan: Get wheels and tire and LSD this year. Suspension tuning next year.

How bad is the stock suspension on big square rubber?

I want to get a feel for the car and build it smartly.

Square wheels and tires should take care of the factory understeer, but shocks from 2007 are probably a bit worn at this point and bigger, sticky tires will probably amplify the situation.

That being said, the LSD and tires will probably cut your times better than a new suspension. (As long as your existing shocks are not completely shot)

I would also consider alignment parts. (Adjustable front A-arms in particular) Stock suspension lacks camber and will eat your tires on course.
