Wish I had a trailer, this is how I transported the G35.
I do tow cars though...
We use these wheel straps and we get them from AW direct... With one on each corner the car doesn't go anywhere... I have towed Diesel Ram 2500s with 38inch tires in neutral with 4 of these straps holding it on the bed... It was a little sketchy but they worked fine...
Only thing I would recommend is over long distances I would stop and snug them up after the first 25-30 miles because they do tend to get a little less snug after bouncing around... Especially on the crap roads we have.
I always stop after a few miles to retighten straps. Have been amazed how they can get a little loose.
A few years ago there was a guy with a GTR who used to come to the track. His 'tow' vehicle was a 4 door rollback truck....and I don't think he used it for anything else. It was sweet.
A trailer is an expensive part of this hobby. It took me a long time to bite the bullet and get one but it has been very useful, not just for the tractor and the Z. My trailer has stake pockets and built box sides and ends for it and can haul tons (literally) of dirt, sand, mulch, etc. I've ended up using the trailer more than I expected.
The other thing is, unless you abuse it, trailers hold their value very well.
I've been tracking my 06 Z for almost 20 years now. I still pack it up with gear and drive it to the track (even got down to Z Nationals a couple times) with tentative plans to go full racecar..it'll happen eventually. There are a number of reasons now for me to get a trailer. I want something enclosed, probably 20-22ft, V-nose, budget ~$10-15k.
I've been browsing trailertrader.com.. Does anyone have any other suggestions for shopping?
Also, Are there some do's/don't's as far as strapping the Z in to a trailer - for instance - attaching through wheel, special straps around the tires, going for structure underneath? Is it a matter of preference?
BTW - I picked up my tow vehicle late last year.. a gently used 2024 Titan SV King-Cab w/ towing package.
I'm the OP of this ancient thread. Not going to the track as much as I used to but I'm an instructor with NASA and have been a good many years. I still go about 3 times a year to my home track.
In terms of securing the car I have short straps with metal rings on the end that I loop through the wheel spokes. You can get them from race shops. Got mine and the tow straps from Discovery Parts. I hook those rings into the hooks of the tie down straps. The straps on the front are short. The straps on the rears are longer and are crossed. In all these years of towing there has never been a problem.
I will offer one tidbit of wisdom for anyone planning on towing their car on a trailer. I had a friend weld mounts on either side of the rear of the trailer that accept screw type jacks like the one on the tongue of most trailers. When it comes time to load I run the jacks down so that the rear of the trailer is supported. This means there is no lift on the tongue of the trailer when you drive on or off the trailer. Takes a lot of the drama out of loading and unloading. I can even do it when the trailer is not attached to the truck (as long as the trailer tires are very well chocked). I also recommend a winch for loading. I have one on the front of my trailer that plugs into my truck. With the jacks on the rear of the trailer and a winch on the front there is ZERO drama when loading. If you can't afford an electric winch and the hassle of wiring your truck for one you can use a stout heavy duty boat winch mounted to the front of the trailer which is what a friend of mine does all the time. There is more physical effort but the result is the same.
Hey George, good to see your still around, you were my instructor at CMP in 2019! My car has changed quite a bit from when you rode with me. I wouldnt mind running CMP again this fall if you got a event lined up let me know! I picked up a 28' Intech enclosed and love it. Aluminum is the way to go, it wont rust and isnt as heavy. Just run the straps through the wheels and ratchet them to the D rings and send it!
Yep thats me. I will keep an eye on that event, I was going to do VIR with Dr. Hoon at this Audi club event that time but he may not make it. I have a kirk racing roll bar I was going to give you if you wanted it.

I appreciate the offer but I had a custom one put in a while back. Hope you can make it to CMP.
Thanks for the feedback. I didn't expect the OP of this necro-bump to chime in - lol. But, thanks. I think that I have a better idea of what I'm looking for..
I also got an email for an early-bird special to Z-Nationals track day at Road Atlanta Oct 16. I had the pleasure of driving this a few years back and am going to sign up for it again this year. Seems like a reasonable goal to have my trailer setup situated by then. The track itself is marvelous, an entire Z/Nissan track-day there is unforgettable! I'm sure the travel down will still be.. a process.. but should be more comfortable with a trailer setup than wearing earplugs squeezed into the Z with all my gear and luggage for 800 miles.
I'm not sure what's going on but.. I went to 5 different trailer businesses and was only able to get a written quote from 1 of them. I got a price from one other, but they couldn't produce any details about it (make, model, axels, etc..)
Late to this party … I think you have to work up to anyting you want to be in (long term) …
I started with an 18ft open trailer and ran that for years … great trailer and was very practical. I had a coworker selling a 28ft enclosed for a steal at $4500 and it was a great dael … sold the 18ft open and bought the 28ft enclosed … had it for 2years and ended up selling it for $9k …
It was last year and I was looking for a 20ft aluminum setup that I could pull with my ecoboost F150 and nothing really on the used market (in Denver) and I found essentially exactly what I wanted but it was out of state(texas). Messaged the seller and he was willing to deliver for his listed price. I saved up a few $K and bought this 20ft aluminum. Essentially bare and nothing that I ultimately wanted but it was a great starting point.
about a year in thsu far -
Found a decent snapon box for my car related stuff and adding to it as we go
I put engineered hardwood flooring in and it sucked, since ripped it out and have the rubber texturized flooring ready to go
installed LED strip lighting in the ceiling - 100% worth it, runs off a car battery right now
installed a simple 2500lb HF winch
have four ~400w solar panels and figuring out the controller, inverter, and switches … but hope to have that figured out before the end of the year
got some ammenities up and going:
-jack stand mounts
-ratchet strap holder
-Nissan & mazda flags
I installed e-tracks and I was wildily disappointed … removed and sold the e-tracks and installed 4 additional D-ring setups and it is way more useful and more practical.
Sorta a work in progress but making steps one at a time
