Wish I had a trailer, this is how I transported the G35.

I do tow cars though...

We use these wheel straps and we get them from AW direct... With one on each corner the car doesn't go anywhere... I have towed Diesel Ram 2500s with 38inch tires in neutral with 4 of these straps holding it on the bed... It was a little sketchy but they worked fine...

Only thing I would recommend is over long distances I would stop and snug them up after the first 25-30 miles because they do tend to get a little less snug after bouncing around... Especially on the crap roads we have.

I always stop after a few miles to retighten straps. Have been amazed how they can get a little loose.

A few years ago there was a guy with a GTR who used to come to the track. His 'tow' vehicle was a 4 door rollback truck....and I don't think he used it for anything else. It was sweet.

A trailer is an expensive part of this hobby. It took me a long time to bite the bullet and get one but it has been very useful, not just for the tractor and the Z. My trailer has stake pockets and built box sides and ends for it and can haul tons (literally) of dirt, sand, mulch, etc. I've ended up using the trailer more than I expected.

The other thing is, unless you abuse it, trailers hold their value very well.

I've been tracking my 06 Z for almost 20 years now. I still pack it up with gear and drive it to the track (even got down to Z Nationals a couple times) with tentative plans to go full racecar..it'll happen eventually. There are a number of reasons now for me to get a trailer. I want something enclosed, probably 20-22ft, V-nose, budget ~$10-15k.

I've been browsing trailertrader.com.. Does anyone have any other suggestions for shopping?

Also, Are there some do's/don't's as far as strapping the Z in to a trailer - for instance - attaching through wheel, special straps around the tires, going for structure underneath? Is it a matter of preference?

BTW - I picked up my tow vehicle late last year.. a gently used 2024 Titan SV King-Cab w/ towing package.

I'm the OP of this ancient thread. Not going to the track as much as I used to but I'm an instructor with NASA and have been a good many years. I still go about 3 times a year to my home track.

In terms of securing the car I have short straps with metal rings on the end that I loop through the wheel spokes. You can get them from race shops. Got mine and the tow straps from Discovery Parts. I hook those rings into the hooks of the tie down straps. The straps on the front are short. The straps on the rears are longer and are crossed. In all these years of towing there has never been a problem.

I will offer one tidbit of wisdom for anyone planning on towing their car on a trailer. I had a friend weld mounts on either side of the rear of the trailer that accept screw type jacks like the one on the tongue of most trailers. When it comes time to load I run the jacks down so that the rear of the trailer is supported. This means there is no lift on the tongue of the trailer when you drive on or off the trailer. Takes a lot of the drama out of loading and unloading. I can even do it when the trailer is not attached to the truck (as long as the trailer tires are very well chocked). I also recommend a winch for loading. I have one on the front of my trailer that plugs into my truck. With the jacks on the rear of the trailer and a winch on the front there is ZERO drama when loading. If you can't afford an electric winch and the hassle of wiring your truck for one you can use a stout heavy duty boat winch mounted to the front of the trailer which is what a friend of mine does all the time. There is more physical effort but the result is the same.
