Question LMS: Legal CAI for STU

So I've been reading around and it seems no one has any of the long cold air intakes on their STU cars, why is this?

I've read section 14.10c of the 2016 rules and the only thing I see that might not allow them is this:

The existing structure of the car may not be modified for the passage of ducting from the air cleaner to the engine inlet.
From the install instructions I've seen and read, along with installed pictures, it looks like both the Injen and Z1 can be routed through the openings in the core support without cutting. It might squish the silicone a bit but you'd still have colder air in front of the radiator.

So learn me why this would not be legal on my '07 Z

Thanks!

Although I don't run them, I know people use them in STU. There is a debate whether they give actual performance gain in Autox, with the long runner and additional elbows.

They might not do much at auto-x I agree, but it seems you would at least get some consistently cooler air vs underhood temps. I just want to make sure they aren't going to get me protested if I purchase them.
