I think you are overestimating the weight savings. I've gutted many cars. The sheet metal is almost nothing, then adding the cage I'd assume you'd add weight overall. If someone who has done this has any weight numbers that would be great
Yes, I will be adding weight with the cage going in, no doubt. But better to add cage - sheetmetal, vs cage + sheetmetal. very curious to see what mine will weigh after all is said and done and if it'll be under 3300lb like @Dr Hoon
One large swap that can be added (without a safety compromise) is going cf/fiberglass doors. I picked up a set and between both doors you can deduct 50 to 60lbs off the car.
Dr. Hoon Edit (from below) - meaning / clarifying: Yes, if you have the right cage with side protection you offset a portion of the added cage weight by going cf/fg doors.
I'll play health and safety here, you don't want to install lightweight doors unless you have full cage with door bars. I've seen some bad track accidents where the driver survived only because of door protection, don't be a statistic.
Yep, I wont' be full cage now but if I was going to do that, for sure I'd also look at the doors as they are HEAVY AF!
Sounds like the wife is going to buy me a Milwaukee drill (M18FPD2-0) for Christmas, that'll certainly help
Started pulling bits and pieces out now
I found some rust on the inside/rear strut tower, bit odd but the nice chap doing my cage said he can sort it out properly. So I shall keep looking over the car to find any other problematic areas, bit strange as the car is garaged and not really used over winter.
Picked up my Z yesterday from 425 Motorsports after getting the cage and false floor installed. As you can see they created a new, better looking/stronger strut tower brace for the rear.
If you want to have passengers with heads you'll want to get a lower seat mount. I'm 5'11" and I've had students with race seat setups like this and I was not able to fit in their car with the helmet on, had to find a shorter substitute instructor for them. Just FYI, there are better solutions out there.

What do you recommend? I've had 6'+ instructors sit in there with no issue, but always open to suggestions. I've currently got Planted seat brackets and seats on the lowest setting.
Instead of flat plate mounts you'd need either side mount brackets or drop mounts that allow the seat to be mounted below the height of the mount points. Here's an example of such bracket (the one in the back is pass side drop mount)
Here's a pic of the 350z side mounts
I can't really tell if the RHD right side floor is as f'd up as LHD floor based on these pics, but yeah the other option is to mod the floor itself to make room for the seat mounts. Looks like you're well on your way Rob
