Default Harness options

Hello everyone.

I got the Z('03 touring) about 2 weeks ago and just the other day, i got to auto-x it. boy, it was like learning to drive all over again.

i was in STS w/ a 99 prelude before i got the Z.

anyways... let me get to my point.

i used the scroth rallye 3 harness in the prelude. it was a very nice harness and almost all autoxers would agree. i cant use the scroth, obviously because of lack of c-pillar seatbelt housing.

what are my options to incorporate a racing harness in the Z WITHOUT the rollcage?

harness bar?

I use 3 inch Simpson's. The waist belts attach to two eyebolts which came with the belts and replace the factory belt retaining bolts. The shoulder harness's I strap to the rear strut brace. Takes me 5 minutes to install, tops. The operation of the factory belt is not restricted at all.

I've been tempted to run a 3 point setup (Y harness) with the single shoulder point bolted to the unused child seat bolt behind the driver's side seat. It might not meet safety standards for a track/street, but for Solo2 it should be sufficient.

Avalon racing sales a harness bar which looks great in the car. May not work if you'r 6'2" or so (seats only go back so far).

I was thinking about using the unused child seat anchor behind the driver's seat but after checking it out, there is no way that will take any load without warping the sheet metal around it. There's a small hole about 2 inches to the lower right of the anchor, that if you have slim fingers, you can get a finger through and feel the nut and plate that's spot welded to make the anchor. If you push hard upward on the nut on the back you can feel and even see the sheet metal bend. Plus it's looks like it's only a 5mm bolt which wouldn't be able to take any serious load of repeated hard breaking or in the very unlikely event of a crash.

It's too bad cuz it's in a perfect place; right in the center of the seat. I guess if Nissan could make that anchor and the sheet metal immediately around it beefier for future 350Z iterations then it would make it somewhat more appealing to Z owners.

Correction: the hole that is large enough to get a finger through is to the lower left of the anchor.

If all goes well, something new is about to be released soon. News before April. Let me just say it is better in many ways than what is currently available.

Not really sure what you are talking about here, but I might have a clue? I'm working a deal with a manufacturer right now to resell something that will solve this holding problem for you immediatly for an unbelieveable price. I'll keep you all posted when this happens. Thinking about 2 weeks or so.

Until BCR has firm numbers from manufacturer, intro is still un-official. Still testing the waters.....judging interest. Hope to share a great product soon.

Check it out at Mid-Ohio 4/2.

How much it's going to weight?
I hate adding pounds to my car... and all those bar are usually iron and side-to-side.?

Can it be harness bar be machined out of aluminum ond only for driver side? is there anything in that devider where dynamics and glove box to bolt the piece to?

I can't imagin it'll be tha difficult to produce, and it'll be light and look very nice from aluminum like that:

Bolted in like that will not pass a stress test in a crash. The SCCA will not approve a harness bar unless it mounts to major chassis supports or mounting points. Racing SCCA GT-2 and building our own chassis we build to the requirments of the sanctioning bodies. Any product needs to be stress tested to insure its safety.

I did mean it to be bolted to plastic speaker cover. It's just to show the idea that it's bolted to some chassys beam below plastic cover. I don't see why it'll be any worse thatn straigt beam from one side to other side.

Or can it be bent backward and down and connect to the floor in the trank, behind driver seat?

I just don't like something like that affecting my rear mirror view while driving on the road.
