Default Are 245/40-18 A3S04 Hoosiers an option

What are your thoughts on running 245/40-18s in the rear and 245/35-18 on 18 X 8 wheels in B-Stock?
Thanks,
Brian

I see no problem with that, although I'd recommend just using the same tire all around.

I'm guessing that you won't be running with VDC, so the lack of stagger shouldn't matter.

I'm running 265/35-18 all around for AutoX on stock wheels and they are working out quite well so far.

D'oh,

You haven't run into the "early ABS" problem running the same size front/rear? 265/35-18... So you are running Kumho's? Have you run into anyone running the Hoosier A3S04? Thanks.

Well, I've noticed the ABS activating when I do a turn and brake @ the same time, but that's going to happen in almost any car if you don't modulate things correctly. But I've noticed that on my street tires as well, and they were staggered, so I what I noticed had to do with the tire size.

It is possible that I experienced it, but just considered part of my lack of driving skills. Also, the Z is my first sports car, so I haven't driven too many other cars to compare to.

cboost28 runs hoosiers 275/40-17 all around on stock rims. I run 275/40-17 kuhmos all around, or my current setup which is 255/40-17 front kuhmo and 255/45-17 rear hoosier, for track and auto-x til they wear out because I got a good deal on some used ones.

2003z,

You definitely have more tire and size choices when 17s are allowed. The A3S04 is, as far as I know, a new offering that appears to be a good middle of the road size. It won't be as pinched by the 8 inch wheel width, and it has the same diameter as the 275/35-18. My big concern is giving up an inch of tread width. But with a 275 on an 8 inch wheel, how much of that tread width is being really being utilized? Would a 245/40-18 actually have better, flatter contact with the pavement? And does the design of the A3S04 offer a benefit for a car like the Z, where you can't dial in any negative chamber?

D'oh,

I remember a couple of folks, one of them very experienced, running 275/35-18 on all four corners saying he had trouble with his ABS kicking in way too soon.

Do you think your 265s are making full use of their width, given their being pinched in on 8 inch wheels?

Carter and Jim Thompson also run 275s on their 17s. I trust those guys.

BTW, how wide are the 17s all the way around? I'm thinking about going to 17s since I only run locally, but I'd like to at least stay quasi legal and use stock sized wheels if I'm going to make the wheel diameter change.
