Question B Stock Classification

Does a grounding kit change classification from B Stock to BSP? Has anyone received a ruling or have a rule book to check?

Technically it's not legal for stock, especially since it might improve performance and it's something other than what's specifically listed in the rulebook. Generally if it's not in the rulebook, it's not legal.. you can't assume anything. Now will anyone actually care? Depending on how strict your region is, how competitive you are etc., i find it hard to believe anyone will raise a fuss over that. If that's your only mod (especially if you're running street tires), i wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for the reply.

I'll take the kit out before the weekend.

I seem to recall seeing something in a fastrack about grounding kits, so you may check with doug gill at dgill at scca.com

He'd be able to answer you, can't hurt to ask for an official answer before you take it all out.

I received an answer from Doug and he referred me to the February 2004 issue of Fastrack and on page F-33 under Tech Bulletins is

3)Stock: Installations of grounding kits specifically designed to support sound systems are covered under comfort and convienence (13.2.A) (Ref 03-807).

As a side note Doug said
If someone claims that it could increase engine performance, ask them to explain how. If they can explain it, ask them to contact me 'cause I'd like to know. I'd like to know how much voltage drop is reduced by adding grounding kits to a correctly-functioning automobile and what systems of the vehicles are affected. The more specifics, the better. Electrical diagram circuit numbers would be most helpful, too.

I'm going to leave everything alone since I was worried about screwing up.

I asked the Head Tech dude at Nationals last year as I have a grounding kit installed. He said that if anyone asks it is for safety reasons, it is not a performance enhancing device.
If that small grounding wire that Nissan installed where to come loose or break, it would cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
