I always assumed that the big brake kits came with components for all 4 wheels? Am I wrong?

My next track day is the Sept. 13th event at Gingerman. PM me if you want a guinea pig for your setup.

I also had problems with my front XP-9s: Pad deposits and brake fade. I'm pretty sure it wasn't boiled fluid (firm pedal and Motul 600) so I'll be trying a differnt pad next time for sure. The pads aren't even aggressive enough to remove the deposits in street driving!

Are you running the 355mm or 332mm BBK up front? I read the StopTech comparison test that they did on the Z, and they found that the rear rotor temps were higher when the front rotors are 355mm vs. 332mm. I can't remember their explanation why that was happening, but it may be that EBD forced more aggressive braking in the rear to balance the effectiveness of the front.

I just had my first track event last week, and certainly feel I've gotten hooked on yet another expensive hobby. I know I need to upgrade my brakes/lines/fluid as I'll probably get better with each subsequent track event. For the time being, I must decide whether to get:

1. Stop Tech 332mm front BBK
2. Stop Tech 355mm front BBK
3. Stop Tech front and rear 355mm BBK (cost is a huge issue here)

Right now, I'm leaning towards the 332mm fronts, and just get good pads/ducting for the rear. I figure for a someone who plans on doing only 4 events a year, it should be good enough. Do any of you track stars have recommendations or lessons learned regarding those three alternatives?

dnguyent - you should be fine with the 332 fronts and some track pads on the back. I track my car a lot and I track it hard. My setup is the front 332mm StopTech kit with brake cooling ducts (front only) and PF01 pads. At the rear I have all stock except for removal of the dust shield, stainless lines and Carbotech XP pads. The setup works fine, although the rear pads only last 3-6 days (depending on which track I'm driving). The Z has a lot of weight in front and combined with sticky Hoosiers, the rears aren't doing a whole lot of work relative to the fronts.

Just make sure you turn off your traction/stability control as that can overwork the rear brakes (and overheat them) in a racetrack setting.

Good luck.

The rear rotors are so thin. Why don't you track guys upgrade to thicker bigger rotors, and just keep the stock calipers?

The calipers are made for a certain width rotor. The other problem is that the non-track model rear caliper's brake pad is just too small to be useful on track. To learn more, go to:

Start at the earliest date, and work through. Hope that helps.
