autoX tires?
i've only been to 1 autoX (novice) and the oem tires took a beating so i was wondering what type of tires (g35 coupe) should i get for autoX only? I was planning on getting tires on the off season...
It depends on what wheel you have, and if you want race tires or street tires. For street tires I'd go with either the Kumho Ecsta MX or the Falken Azenis Sport. The Falkens are only available in P245/45R17, they're a great size for the stock G35c 17" wheels. You can also go with the BFGoodrich G-Force KDs, but they're a bit pricey. Kumho MX or Azenis are pretty much the standard for AutoX when it comes to street tires.

Well they wouldn't be my first choice either but this year I ran in STU (street tire Ultra) in my WRX STi on Kumho MX's and they are pretty good. You have to put alot of air in them because they have soft side walls but they handle heat very well. The Kumho MX is an awesome street tire I would say aside from the Azenis Sport it is the best street tire for the money and in the top 5 of best street tire at any cost.
For a race tire there is only one choice if you want to win. Kumho 710 245/40/17. The victoracers aren't bad they don't have the lateral grip of the 710 but they will last longer.

Don't expect them to last more than 1 season though. I put 12 Solo2 events on them from June 1 to end of October and even with rotation they're bald now (no lapping or dragging etc...).
Yes, they can get noisy on the street, but the cool thing is that they can be rotated inside out (left to right) to better help the wear and noise. The best part is their price, $581 shipped from TireRack. Sounds like you could get an even a better deal from MPOWERS.

They do flat spot a bit when parked overnight in the cold but that comes out after a few km of driving. The overall grip is very good and they're quite easy to catch once they let go. Personally, I find they don't squeal too loud. The sidewall is a little soft (great for the street ride @ 35psi) so they require a good 42-44 psi for Solo2. With those pressures and rotation I had very good equal wear.
I've talked to other users and the general feeling is that the MXs handle heat better (don't get greasy on the track) and are better in standing water. The Azenis offer a little more dry (cool) grip.
For the price they can't be beat and besides that, they're a very good overal tire.
