We've got a sluch and Slide series with 5-6 events. Our snow banks get too large and hard here to run a 350z (and I drive year-round). Instead, a local garage sponsor a driver and I by giving us a free 1990 Honda Prelude to crunch...

I'm not sure what wintercross is, but in southern Wisconsin, they run autocrosses on frozen lakes! I've done it a couple times LONG ago with my 356C & my Capri with 4 wheel studs! Strange that the base camp is always a bar.

I've been looking into doing it the past 2 winters......maybe this year.

I was trying to talk my local club into doing this, with no success. If they do it in Wisconsin I'll probably go at least once. Please let us know. I'll drive my wife's 4x4 Volvo cross country of course

Do you have a link to the club that runs the events? I've been dreaming about ice racing since I ordered snow tires!

Since all you guys down south are making me jealous being able to run 710s and the like, I thought I'd post about my winter Solo2 with the 350z.

Overall, the car did great running on Blizzak 215/65/16. Before my insurance yanked my coverage, I ran two events in which I won my RWD class (couple '80 imports and a P/U - big deal) but more importantly, I almost beat the entire FWD field on my second outing. I was only 3 seconds behind the winning FWD and that cumulative time of over 70 seconds per course and 7 runs in total

As a reference, I was typically running 3-5 seconds per 70 second course behind the AWD Subies (including a new turbo Legacy) and Audis.

Probably the thing I learned the most is using new lines to find traction. The more traction there was, the closer to the AWD I ran (ie: only 3 seconds back).

I never ran with VDC on because the intervention is so long. I was obviously never able to use full throttle, instead listening very carefully for a slight wheelspin on acceleration, anything more and the acceleration actually deteriorated.

While a huge throttle induced powerslide looks great it obviously didn't me my best times. Instead, I found the car/clock responded best to direct line to apex and then hard braking right after turn-in. The rear would step out, but not as hard as throttle oversteer requiring less lock and earlier throttle application.

So, are you southeners jealous now? You shouldn't be, it was pretty melow dramatic out there on the snow. Can't wait for the snow to melt!
