hehe phreak, as much as that sucks, for someone who hasn't opened up the door panels before, it's about 30 minutes of work to take it apart and throw it back together.

sucks, but it happens.

I would look in the DIY forum for the window motor swap guide, that will have detailed instructions of how to get access.

have fun, give yourself a break.. LOL

I did mine about 2 weeks ago. I had no issue with the paint or taking the bolts out. I clamped the nut with niddle nose pliers, when it was just about off the bolt. Installing the nut--I actually taped the nut(blue tape) onto the ratchet(no worries about falling into the door). Once it was tightened, I just pulled and the tape ripped! I used something else other than spray paint.

I sanded mine with 400 hundred grit, then primered. I think the finish would take the paint without sanding though.

I just did mine yesterday and they turned out great. It wasn't that bad just had to take it slow on gettin the screws out. I used a prep scuff pad to scratch the surface first and the paint stuck pretty well. I'd try and stay away from sand paper it will usually leave sand scratches and show through unless u prime first. Thanks for the DIY

For people wondering if they should sand it before painting and what not. There is an easier way, you can just use plastidip to give it a matte black finish.

Anyone who has done this:

What kind of paint would you recommend? Also would you suggest sand and prime beforehand or just go straight to the paint? Seems to be many mixed replies just want to see what has worked best for all of you.

I actually did it since when I looked into Plastidip it is 100% reversible I will take pictures today and post them (if I can find out how). I also did the emblems with it. Pretty easy and straight forward. The stuff peels right off it if you mess up. Not that I did or anything...

I know my car is a pretty dirty it just rained last night. The handles also a little dirty, too lazy this morning to clean it. Plus it will rain in a day or too.

Also, sorry for the phone pictures.

I am about to tackle this DIY, however, my ZR does not have two plugs, only one, visually. Most of you that have done this are in a coupe? I have got a "Dove Tail Male" guide that is possibly covering the top plug. Ref. BL-105 in Service Manual. It has three torx bits which will need to be removed, to access the top plug, if there is one. Will keep you posted.

BTW, if you used Plastidip, does that not give it a rubber texture?

UPDATE: Yes, there is a plug behind the "Dove Tail Male" guide, which is held with three T30 torx screws. Again, this applies to roadsters only. I have removed the passenger handle, and sanded it. As of now, I will likely shoot primer, base coat, clear coat. Also, when you remove the 10mm bolts, I rec. using blue painters tape inside the socket to secure...so it does not drop inside the door when pulling out.

I would post pics but my album is not working. I have reported this problem to mods, and received word that it will be resolved. I hope the pics were not lost because I had some nice DIY and ZR pics.

The PlastiDip does give it a little bit of a rubbery feel but honestly it isn't bad I don't notice it at all.
