are the license plate lights legal? or is it ok as long as they are not blue lights?

^^yup as long as they are not a different color then stock they are legal.

For the record guys, the license plate bulbs are excellent... well worth the cost!
It's been about 2 months now since I've installed mine... still going strong and they look wonderful! In fact, this reminds me to forward this thread to some friends on another forum. They've been looking for a quality replacement, these are definitely it!
