Being lazy here, actually getting old, (73) , anyway one of the problems I've noticed is inherent in my 2005 Z is the number of switches that have to report to the computer in order for things to happen. Now this is off the top of my head from using the car but to turn over, it takes a seat switch, a door switch, a clutch switch and a brake switch, not necessarily in that order. I remember moving the chip from the original key because the rosin the Japanese used to bind it in the key had turned brown and blocked the signal to the computer, inherently stopping the turn-over. All that aside, I think my brake switch is getting weak. I'd like to replace, it interferes with a smooth top up and down action. Does anyone know where it is, so I don't have to search for it?
The brake switch/stop lamp switch is located on a metal bracket that sits above the brake pedal. If you have cruise control, there will be two switches. The stop lamp switch is the plunger switch that sits below the cruise control/ASCD cancel switch (#8 below):
BUT, if the open sequence is starting, then it's getting a signal that the brake pedal is depressed for the top to start retracting, so it may not necessarily be a faulty/weak brake switch. It could be one of the 3 motors that operates the top (5th bow and two in the trunk on either side).
Thanks, now that I think of when I could crawl under the dash and throw my legs over the seat, at 6'4", I might leave this to a mechanic. I know a good one.
